G-20 summit venue protected by security fence due to planned protests

2010-11-10 17:40:00 GMT+7 (ICT)

SEOUL (BNO NEWS) -- A security fence has been erected around the main G-20 summit venue in southern Seoul, to protect visiting world leaders and other summit participants from terrorist attacks and protesters, local media reported.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said the 2-meter-high fence was established late Tuesday night to surround the COEX complex, which includes a trade center and the ASEM tower.

The fence runs about 1.8 kilometers, officials said, without elaborating on the walled section for security reasons.

Police have said that rallies and demonstrations are banned within a two-kilometer radius of the summit venue through Friday. South Korean labor and civic groups announced their plans to launch protests throughout the week.
