Fidel Castro calls President Obama "a wise man handing out jobs" at UN

HAVANA, CUBA (BNO NEWS) -- Cuban leader Fidel Castro compared U.S. President Barack Obama to a "wise man" who "is handing out jobs" in the United Nations (UN) Security Council in his latest essay published on Monday.

"Obama, like a wise man, is handing out jobs in the UN Security Council, as if it were his own property," Castro, 84, said in his latest "Reflection" in which he focuses on the G-20 meetings and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum (APEC).

Castro used European media sources to cite Obama saying that Japan is a model country that should have a permanent seat in the Security Council.

"Before, in the New Delhi Parliament, [Obama] had said that his government 'would support India's eventual entry into the UN Security Council.' Pakistan, of course, bitterly complained about that Yankee promise," Castro stated.

"What [Obama] did not say was whether the seat was with or without a veto, as if that anti-democratic privilege was eternal," he added.

In addition, Castro underlines that "likewise, it is unknown whether this generous offer was also made to Lula, despite the 500 million Latin Americans," adding that "almost one billion Africans are not represented with a permanent seat in the Council."

"How long does he think can the world be manipulated in that way?" asks Castro, considering the possibility that "maybe I'm wrong and I underestimate if Obama, in his euphoria, decides to offer U.S. support to every candidate."

Castro goes on in irony, saying, "of course," the G-20 and APEC meetings both ended with a "happy ending, like in the Hollywood westerns when we were young."

Furthermore, Castro, makes reference to Obama's Asian tour, which ended after the meeting with a "visit to the Great Buddha of Kamakura monument," saying that the U.S. President has "more than enough reasons" to visit it "now that the fascist right is quickly gaining territory in the reformist Europe, including Sweden."

"In the Yankee consumer society," Castro continues, "too many people ignore almost everything, and they think that social justice, health, education, solidarity, and peace are communist things."

Regarding the G-20 and APEC meetings, Castro says that "when a person is seriously sick, it is common practice that the Catholic Church, after confession comes extreme unction."

"That is what has happened to U.S. credibility" in those meetings, Castro states. "Starting with that, no one knows what comes next. Maybe they will continue by offering a Christian burial or cremate the remains of the absurd illusion of believing that it is possible to maintain an incompatible social system with humanity."

Castro frequently analyzes international topics in his "Reflections," which he began writing after stepping down from power in 2006 due to severe illness.

He makes some fair points. Not sure what he means by solidarity though. That does sound communist.

Spent many years of my early years living in Havana studying Fidel and the Cuban Revolution. He is a very wise and intelligent man. I don't agree with all of his policies or his suppressive rule, but he is usually on point with what he says.

Obama's move towards solidifying a special relationship between the US and India is indeed very, very wise. The USA will never have that kind of relationship with China. India and the USA are natural allies, both very messy democracies.
