Off To Kl For 1St Non Imm "O" - Any Tips?

Featured Replies

hi folks,

in early december this year i plan to take a trip with my thai wife to KL to apply for a Non-Imm Class "O" multiple entry visa.

as i understand from having looked at other posts in this site and the embassy website it i am requied to bring :

1 - marriage certificate+signed copy

2- wife ID card+signed copy

3 - home register(tabien baan)+signed copy

4 - proof of 100k in a thai bank + signed copy

i am extremely keen to avoid any foul ups here because a wasted trip to KL would be a really expensive annoyance!

i would like to know the following :

1 - do the documents need to be translated from thai or are copies of the thai originals going to be ok?

2 - does "copies" mean simply colour photocopies, with the signatures in blue pen, or does it mean some sort of more official copy?

3 - should i also bring orginals/copies of my kids birth certificates or my birth cert??

4 - i have heard they sometimes issue the multiple entry and sometimes only a single entry. a single entry is no use to me, so is there anything i can do to ensure i get the multiple entry?

5 - they quote their hours as :

Office Hours:

Monday-Friday 09.00-13.00 hrs. , 14.00-17.00 hrs.

Consulate Section:

Monday-Friday 09.30-12.30 hrs.

are the visas dealt with through the Consulate section? i see they say applications in the morning and collections in the afternoon.

so applications are made in the morning and collected in the afternoon? or are the NON Imm "O" visas issues the day after application? ie a 24 hour service?

in addition any comments or recommendations regarding doing this run - flights, hotels, etc. would be very welcome. we're a youngish couple and plan to use the 4 days without kids to let our hair down a bit in a new city and it's many years since i was in KL, so any ideas for fun things to do or places to go (or avoid!)in KL also welcome.

thanks to all in advance :)

1. No

2. Copies that the person referenced has signed.

3. Not a bad idea to have children s information.

4. Request and pay for multi entry.

5. Believe pick up is noon or thereabouts. Visas are always a Consulate function. Should be next workday available.

Go early, always a queue, apply day 1 get day 2 in afternoon.Allow for travelling time from Airport to and from City, this can be upto 1.5 hrs each way depending on traffic so watch your flight times. If you take a Taxi from the Airport you'll pay the office before leaving NOT the driver.

I used straight forward B&W copies and signed them/wife signed them

Submit application between 9.00 - 12.00 get there by 8.30am minimum

Collection after 2.00pm get there by atleast 1.30pm

I just took my Thai bank book and a copy of the most current page, good idea to update the book just before you travel showing a very recent or sameday transaction.

Marriage Cert & Copy

Tabien Bahn (wife signed copy)

Wifes ID card signed copy.

Passport and signed copy.

I flew with Malaysian airways, found them to be the cheapest and most convenient flight times.

All straight forward and painless at the Embassy, there are a few "reports" from people who have done this run recently including me so search for Kuala Lumpur reports and you'll find loads of helpful info and tips.

Good luck have fun.

hey charlie - exactly the stuff i am after! thanks a lot!

Take the train from and to the New Airport (to KL Central). Very comfortable, quicker and half the price of a taxi.

Take the monorail in the direction of the Consulate (map needed) and find a Hotel, There are many reasonably cheap ones

Ask your wife to write a very short letter requesting that they issue a Visa for you. They like that!

When I went Thai Airways had the best deal surprisingly.
