<br />I find the alter-ego ruse a bit confusing though. The way I understand it,  Millwall fan is a racist bigot and Pedroldebell is a lovable pub landlord.
<br /><br /><br />I have to admit that I find the two nicks confusing too.<br /><br />Uptheos is usually a real gentleman as I have run him many times over many years and I have to admit that I would love to meet Mapguy in person as he has certainly mellowed out in comparison to the old days - I want to know his secret. <br />They might not want to eat, but let's hope both of them show up for the free beer! <img src='http://static.thaivisa.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /><br />

Is it my imagination, or are we getting a little off topic here, as well as a tad OTT?

Back in beautiful Chang Dao, we made a decision a long time ago to stay with the wonderful, eco-enthusiast Malee at Malees Nature Bungalows for value for money and great Thai food.

Decision No 2, after staying at the Nest next door was never to stay there again and only pop in and out if we fancied a western nosh. The Thai proprietor/chef who despises Thai food, seems to dislike children and makes a habit of loudly insulting her hen-pecked husband (English)is enough to deter most reasonable people.

In my hearing, she once promised a visiting local journalist "Within 2 years you will see me as the executive chef at one of the big hotels in Chiang Mai." And that was about 6 years ago.

Wow! Wicha has certainly rubbed many people the wrong way by the looks of things. But I see things differently. She is definitely a strong woman; a character. She can be great fun, witty, a brilliant chef and obviously devoted to her staff (she regularly pays for them, and a minivan, to come to Chiang Mai to join food events so that they can expand their horizon, she has moulded them from women in the village who only cook local food, to potential chefs that any restaurant would want) and she has an opinion on most things! Love her or hate her, she is a strong woman. We all know that chefs can be a tad temperamental...I shan't name names but we all know that ther are some successful farang male chefs in town who get away with some pretty shoddy attitudes...Anyway, I am not excusing her bad behaviour, I just don't allow it to bother me as I do love the food (again, her thing about Thai food in her resturant, is probably not racist, but just think, if you walk into Le Coq d'Or, would the chef apperciate you ordering fried rice? - I think it is a chef thing). But that is just me. I enjoy people with strong characters and she certainly has one! But I will defend her to the hilt about how she treats her staff...she adores them as they do her).

It looks like Chiang Dao has it's own female equivalent of Basil Fawlty. Does Chiang Mai have a Basil?

Sawasdee Khrup, Chiang Mai TV friends,

We've spent many a happy day in Chiang Dao (actually it's our second favorite cave: the Tham Tub Tao [Tub Thao cave] further north towards Fang, turn off to Wat Tub Thao about 10-11km. before Chai Prakarn, is our favorite, but never stayed over or eaten at either of the venues discussed here in Chiang Dao.

It may be interesting to compare, if you wish, what the website TripAdvisor reviews say about the venues (CDN has 97 reviews for hotel, none under restaurants we can find: Malee has 28 reviews under "speciality lodging," and two reviews under restaurants), compared to what is being said here.

You might start here :

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g1216713-Chiang_Dao-Hotels.html

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g1216713-c3-Chiang_Dao-Hotels.html

Hypothesis: CDN for newcomers to Thailands may be a different experience for long-term expats, and newcomers do tend to write reviews on TripAdvisor ? Hypothesis 2: long term expats don't generally write reviews on TripAdvisor, because they write here ? Hypothesis 3: mixed Thai-Farang couples might have something to do with the "chemistry" reported here ?

best, ~o:37;

Maybe she needs the staff more than she does the transient tourists. On our stay most of the guests obviously had Chiang Dao on their Thai holiday itinerararies and are unlikey to return. Nest 1 & 2 are fairly high profile for internet users and repeat busines, would be, I suggest, minimal. Nothing wrong with strong characters, male or female, but blatant bad manners and aggresive behaviour is,in my mind ,unforgiveable. Would she get away with it if she was located in CM and relied on local support?

I wonder if they have stuck a no riff raff sign up yet?

Stayed in CDN2 and had a great time. It was quiet and we had excellent Thai food and really good value clean rooms. The biggest bonus was there wasn't even one miserable old git from Chiang Mai staying there. I had my baseball bat with me just in case.

Anonymouse: you have a strange view of TV and internet forums in general, my friend: Mapguy came into my pub once for Sunday Lunch. He didn't like it. I offered him a voucher to retry the Sunday Lunch which he said was an opportunistic gesture and I was playing to the gallery.

Uptheos came clean last night (before the post was pulled) and admitted that he loathes my place because he considers my internet persona to be a bigotted, rascist, culinary elistist, ignoramous (or words to that effect!)

Where would TV be without a bity of rancour.

I sincerely hope Mapguy and Uptheos will come to the TV party. They will both be most welcome!

If everybody agreed with everyone else, few people would read this forum. It's not the most popular forum on TV for nothing!!!

I heard that the recent laudable clean-up operation had resulted in a short-term downturn in viewership, but your recent contributions are bucking the trend. Sneaky!!

I find the alter-ego ruse a bit confusing though. The way I understand it, Millwall fan is a racist bigot and Pedroldebell is a lovable pub landlord. Isn't there the possibility of forgetting which hat, as it where, you are wearing when you post? Just out of curiosity, which one, if any, is the real you?

I'm getting used to the hat situation. Thinkinofstayin. I suppose you have the advantage over ,me - having a succesion of banned ID's means you can continue to be same loveable chap that we know you to be!!

Thanks for all the replies. Even the ones that had nothing to do with my question! We are in Chiang Mai now and will be leaving in the morning for Chiang Dao and will be staying at the Chiang Dao Nest for at least 1 night. Will post my thoughts of the place later.

We stayed at the Nest 1 last week (1 night) and thought it a pretty decent place if you're looking for a quiet, laid back kind of resort. A number of posters mentioned the owners but neither were present when we were there so can't comment on them. Food was great but a tad expensive. Room was big and very clean (B 795). Very well laid out. Highly recommend the place.
