Hunt on for suspected sexual predator after teen murders shock Germany

BODENFELDE, GERMANY (BNO NEWS) -- Police in Germany are hunting for a suspected sexual predator after the murders of two young teenagers over the weekend.

The first details about the crimes were released at a news conference on Monday afternoon where investigators said that the bodies of a 13-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl were found on Sunday on the outskirts of Bodenfelde, a town in Lower Saxony state and is about 35 kilometers (21 miles) north of Kassel.

Investigators refused to say how the children had been killed, citing 'strategic reasons relating to the investigation.' The victims, who were identified by media as Nina B. and Tobias L., had no personal connection although they did go to the same school.

Police had been searching for Nina since Tuesday last week when she ran away from her home. In the following days, Nina had spoken to fellow students and friends but was able to avoid police until she was found dead on Sunday.

Tobias went missing after he brought a friend to the train station at around 8 p.m. on Saturday evening. His body was found by his mother on Sunday.

Investigators believe the murders may have been carried out by a sexual predator as the teenagers were found partially undressed. It was not immediately clear if they had been sexually assaulted.

Criminal director Andreas Borchert said at least one of the children may have been approached by someone in a dark car.
