News_Editor Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Ten suspected terrorists arrested in Belgium, Netherlands, and Germany 2010-11-23 22:50:06 GMT+7 (ICT) ANTWERP, BELGIUM (BNO NEWS) -- Ten terror suspects were arrested in Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands during separate operations, which revealed they were planning a terror attack in Belgium, officials said Tuesday. A year-long investigation by Belgium authorities resulted in the arrest of an "international jihadist terror group" - which has also been linked to terror suspect Bassam Ayachi, who was charged in 2009 for planning terror attacks - that had been planning an attack against an undisclosed location in Belgium. According to reports, the arrested individuals are Belgian, Dutch, Moroccan, and Russian (Chechen), but throughout the months of investigations, authorities said they had previously arrested several others in Spain, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia. Police raided 10 separate apartments simultaneously, although most of arrests were made in Antwerp, Belgium, where the investigation was coordinated since the end of 2009. Dutch authorities confirmed the arrest of three men in Amsterdam at the request of the investigation. In addition, German police also confirmed a separate arrest of an individual near Aachen. The suspects are scheduled to make their initial court appearance on Tuesday. Last week, German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said that police and other authorities would step up security at airports and railway stations because of evidence that terrorists are planning to attack the European nation. -- © BNO News All rights reserved 2010-11-23
