My uni students will not put their phones down. Kicking repeated offenders out of the class (losing points for the absence) for the day has not deterred use. They claim they are using them for dictionary use but standing behind them, I see them texting, reading texts, and even /answering making calls. I am tired of being the cell phone police but they disrupt the class. A friend suggested I get a cell phone zapper. Anyone know someone who has used this in class? Where could I buy one in Bangkok? About how much would they cost ? Searching on-line all I have found are mail order sources and this is not something I would want to have sent through the mail.

I am fairly technologically-challenged but take a look at this forum:

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/forum/17-internet-computers-communication-technology/

I'll leave this topic here for now and we'll see if you get any feedback from other teachers. If you want it moved, let me know and I can put it in that forum. Don't open the same topic in two forums, though. That's a no-no.

Best of luck and I hope the teachers and students in the next classroom don't get upset with you!

Personally, I would rather cut off their air-supply!

Deal Extreme sells them, free delivery from Hong Kong. Although I don't know their legality in Thailand.

I understand your frustration and cell jammers are a great way to fight back but you need to check with your department on their validity of use or you could be in deep trouble.

What a dubious gadget! So, if a burglar is in your house, they can use one of these to jam your phone so you cannot get help. What if there is an emergency in an adjoining classroom, and nobody can summon help on their cell because you don't like some of your students using their phone while you are teaching? Think again.

I bought a couple of them online (India?) delivered to an address here in Thailand a couple of years ago. Took 'em back to Canada (illegal there, not sure about here). Had a jackass wandering up and down my apartment hallway shouting on his cell phone - until I put it just inside my door. He found there was no service nearby and went elsewhere.

Just turn one on, leave it hidden in a desk or somewhere no one can notice it, and suddenly attention's all yours - no cell phone service available. The range is limited, so probably no worry next door - until that teacher wants your help, too!

I am going to close this topic for a number of reasons: First, I don't know about the legality of jammers and second, it's a technical question about communication devices and should be discussed in one of those threads.

Unless you have the permission of your school, this could propose a problem.
