Just A Banded Kikri... Right?

the gardener asked me if i wanted him to kill it. i said no, but then i said, up to you, i just don't want it hanging out with my dog.

this bastard was seriously pissed off. the gardener and his friend pinned it long enough to get a hold of the head, make a few tense jokes to eachother and then they just tossed it over the retaining wall and back into the jungle.

it was a draw.

the more i look at this, it just doesn't seem to be very "banded". the last snake that came through the yard was definitely banded (http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4033/4344048922_9dfae7b3a3_z.jpg)

It looks like a "Common Rat Snake" (Ptyas mucosus), similar to the "Banded Kukri snake" except that the Rat snake grows larger and the stripes are more even....I hope this helps?<IMG class=bbc_emoticon alt= src="http://static.thaivisa.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif">

I also think a common rat snake! In fact as the name suggests ~~~ a friend!

Bit blurry but, yes, it seems most like a Banded Kukri (Oligodon fasciolatus).

The Rat Snake (Pytas mucosus) has single bands, not so distinct, while the head is distinct from the body ('neck'). The OP photo has an indistinct head, 'blotches' - areas of colour bounded by black edges - with three bands in between each. Although the head is blurry, there is a light patch which seems to have the distinctive kukri-shape, while no strong band is visble passing through the eye.

If you want to be sure, ask it to smile next time.
