Electrical And Plumbing Connections For Washing Machine

Recommended Posts

Hello,

We just picked up a washing machine from a friend. However, now the more difficult problem of connecting the thing. We don't have any hookups in place. After inspection, it looks like what we will need is:

1. T-off the shower hotwater tap, lay some piping on the outside of the outdoor shower, and drill a hole into the outer wall with hot water spicket.

2. Tap into a nearby electrical outlet and lay a wire over the ceiling and install an electric outlet close to where the washing machine will be.

3. We have a drain not too far away, which we could just connect a drain hose to when the machine is being used, and coil up when done.

Any ideas on cost of labour + cost of supplies?

Thanks for any help.

Cost shouldn't be a lot, but do you really need to tap into your shower hot water tap, especially if its a tankless/on demand water heater. Been using our washing machine with cold water only for over two years now and the clothes come out clean. Using warm/hot water to get clothes clean is way overrated. I expect the washing machine will draw approx 10 amps, plus or minus a few amps...there should be a plate on the machine identifying its amperage/watts draw. Just drain into the nearest gray water inlet.

Thanks for the info.

My partner and I wouldn't mind using cold water, but it's more for our infant (cloth diapers and baby clothing).

Maybe we can try first by just using a long electrical extension chord, and connect to a cold-water spicket and see how it goes before going the home-reno route.

We do have a hot-water tank though, so that might be okay if we end up going this route.

Most washing powders in Thailand are formulated for cold water use so i'm not sure if using hot water will make a great deal of difference.

We have a four year old child who's clothes at times are filthy and once they've been through the washing there as clean as new.

You definitly need a machine that changes the water through the wash cycle's.

When my misses uses her mothers old fashioned and outdated washing machine that doesn't change the water they come out still soiled.

If your in Pattaya and need a good plumber call this guy: Sanguan Sudcha Tel: 0860038778, decent English and good workmanship with reasonable prices.

Thanks for the cold/hot water tips, though unfortunately I'm in Chiang Mai.
