Suicide blast kills 6 in Pakistan

BANNU, PAKISTAN (BNO NEW) — At least six people were killed, including one child and two police officers, after a suicide bomber blasted a police van in the northwestern region of Pakistan, officials said Tuesday.

According to reports, the police van was near the local police station close to Melad Park in Bannu, Pakistan, during the explosion that also injured at least 12 people. However, local media has reported up to 22 injured.

Local police chief Iftikhar Khan confirmed the victims, saying the attacker just walked towards the van and blew himself up. After conducting investigations, one suspect was reportedly arrested.

No terrorist group has claimed responsibility of the attack. However, the area is near the North Waziristan tribal region of Pakistan, which itself borders Afghanistan, and is considered Pakistan's premier fortress of militants and the recent target of increased in U.S. drone strikes.
