flnu
Can you help me understand how this sentence works? It's from my reader. I understand the gist but not the specifics. I'm struggling with what all those ให้'s are doing. และขอให้เพื่อนช่วยหาบ้านเช่าให้ The context/gist is something like "he called his friend on the phone and asked him (his friend) to help him look for a place to let." Thanks in advance.
bhoydy
The first ให้ is part of ขอให้ which means to request. I think the second ให้ is linked to ช่วย as in ช่วยให้ to give help. He's basically asking his friend to help him find a house to rent.
Peppy
และขอให้เพื่อนช่วยหาบ้านเช่าให้ And (he) asked (his) friend to help find (him) a house to rent. The first ให้, as part of ขอให้, means to request or ask for something to happen. The second ให้ goes together with หา: หา....ให้ means to find something for somebody. EDIT: Oops, Bhoydy got there first. Edited December 1, 2010 by Peppy

LanxangBillybob
Many times ให้ is used after a verb or verb phrase to emphasize that the action is 'for the benefit of'. You could actually say that sentence without the ให้ in both places and it keeps it's meaning.
