This morning, December 2nd, I renewed my extension of stay that will expire at the end of January, 2011. The Bank manager’s letter I used was issued the day before I went to immigrations and the embassy letter was dated 9th September.

So it would appear that at least three months is allowed on embassy letters, that the letter from the bank needn’t be obtained the same day that you visit Jomtien Immigrations and that the application can be made at least two months before the extension expires.

The length of the new extension is not determined by the date of application. It still runs until the end of January, 2012.

I waited about 10 minutes to be called and the processing took about 5 minutes. As has been the case in previous years, it is a pretty quick and easy undertaking and the people who work there are polite, professional and efficient.

Different immigration offices use different parameters.

I believe you can apply 3 months before your current extension expires.

It depends on the immigration office. So far, members have posted only about the Pattaya office accepting applications for retirement extensions as early as three months before the expiration of the current permission to stay.

Which is why I specified Jomtien.

When I went for my last 90 day report in November, the officer specifically said "You can come next month (i.e. December) to apply."

I've heard 3 months before, but thought that might be an exception if you offered a good reason for doing it that early.

From most recent reports Jomtien changed and now only allow two months early as general policy. It is still twice what most offices allow.
