El Salvador arrests two individuals related to Mexico massacre

SAN SALVADOR, EL SALVADOR (BNO NEWS) -- Local authorities on Friday announced the arrest of 2 individuals linked to the death of 72 people, including 14 Salvadorians, in the Mexican northern state of Tamaulipas last august.

According to La Pagina newspaper, José Raúl Alegría Alvarenga and Erick Francisco Escobar were arrested on Wednesday in San Marcos municipality, as a result of a thorough investigation stemming from the massacre.

The two men are part of a criminal organization that illegally transports individuals without passport or visa to the United States via Mexico. The organization is conformed of six people, five of them of El Salvador and the other of Guatemala. Escobar is the alleged leader of such network.

Escobar was the one who arrived at the residence of the "clients" and organized them into groups and dispatch them to prearranged locations where they began the long route to Guatemala.

Authorities said that the capture of this two individuals will help solving at least six of the 14 Salvadorian victims. The detainees will be charged in the next hours with illegal human trafficking.

On August 24, a group of migrants from South and Central America who had initially crossed into Mexico through its southern border, were attacked by a criminal group as they were seeking to enter into the United States.

In consequence, the 72 migrants were brutally murdered by drug cartel gunmen and the Mexican Navy was alerted by an Ecuadorian victim that only suffered a gunshot wound. in the clashes one soldier and three suspected drug-gang members were killed.

Military forces were able to detain an underage member of the group, who was taken into custody for further questioning. So far Mexican authorities have captured seven individuals that are the alleged responsible of the massacre.
