ABSOLUT VODKA: New flavour: A hint of longan

BANGKOK: -- Maxxium Fine Wines and Spirits (Thailand) has added longan flavour to its range of Absolut Vodka drinks in a move that it said had nothing to do with Thailand’s current longan oversupply problem.

Kittipat Chaiyakul, a senior marketing executive at the company, said Absolut Vodka had a policy of adding a local fruit flavour to its products in all the countries it enters.

Absolut Vodka currently has four flavours – regular, citrus, mandarin and vanilla. The new drink would not taste like longan, he said, but it would smell like it.

He said the plan was bound to increase the variety of the product.

But it was just a coincidence that the product launch came at the same time as government efforts to try to solve the problem of longan oversupply, he said.

The company expects revenue to grow 3-5 per cent this year from Bt30 million last year.

It hopes to gain a 15-per-cent share in the 30,000-case vodka market.
