Hi Guys , scousemouse here long time no see :-)

I'm going to be buying an x-box 360 soon and was wondering if any of you fine chaps :-) good give me a bit of info. I've been wondering what to get , obviously I want it to be chipped so I can buy my games cheaper but i've heard that if you get it chipped then it stops you playing on-line , is this true ??. I'm going to buy it at fortune town but if anyone knows someplace cheaper then I'll check there out. Also , what size hard drive is best to get the 4G , 120G or 250G ??. Any other info would be much appreciated .

Thanks a lot lads and i'll be back on soon :-)

Scouse.

Any particular reason in choosing x-box over the playstation 3? They have a USB Chip thing for the play 3 out now so you can play copy games as well, and, all the games come on a external hard drive so you don't have to worry about cheap disk copies that get scratched and glitched.

I got a set of 150 games (good games) on a 500 GB hard drive and the USB chip thing for 4500 baht and it's all plug and play, you don't have to modify the unit at all.

But, you can't go online, or play online because the unit will want to update and you can't play anymore.

Just a thought.

Cheers Strange ,

I was originally going to buy a PS3 but thought the copied games were hard to buy when compared to the x-box and now the copy rights are dead and both consoles have the same games to play i thought i'd make a change and go to x-box. Your bit of info is going to make my shopping trip a lot longer tomorrow !!!.

Could I ask how much you payed all in for you PS3 ?? , a friend of mine payed 11,000 baht for his x-box 360 with 5 free games and chipped 250GB.

thanks again

I paid 5000 baht for a second hand play 3 with 2 controllers and that's it. It's a full size one with 40 GB of memory. I usually only have about 3-4 games using memory at one time so it's fine for me. I usually play until I beat the game, then delete and start a new game.

I bought the PS3 at tuk-com in pattaya, and the USB chip/external hard drive set on the 4th floor of MBK in Bangkok...

Play hard in MBK because they wanna charge 8000 baht for the USB/external set. Shop around.

The USB chip I got has a BIA sticker on it and is small as he'll. The external is a 500 GB unit and it says PROBOX on it.

If buy a modded console then you will not be able to play online.

Its a simple choice do you want access to a huge game library and play home alone or a smaller, legitimate, library and play online.

It was simple for me because I know I find myself mostly playing a handful of games even when I have a big library to choose from.

The other drawback is that with a big library you rarely get a chance to complete the game and enjoy all of its content.

Yes you pay a bit more. Its about 1500 baht for a brand new game, but you can get secondhand games for much less. But for me, its worth it.

Its funny, everytime a person asked about xbox someone from the PS* crowd has to chime in "why you buying that?"

well. in answer to your question the new Xbox slim is out it comes with a 250 gig HD, wireless networking and is designed to use the new Kinects system, Kinects is a No remote play system, It just uses your body to play, no remote needed. also has voice recognition as well. I believe you can buy the xbox alone or bundled with kinects and a game.

The price in america is $399 or about 12000 baht, expect to pay about 20 percent more here in thailand.

Keep in mind that the Xbox 360 has overheating problems, my overheated and got the RROD and was unrepairable, i wouldn't recommend buying one unless you play in air conditioned room all the time.

Hearing that the PS3 is now modded i'm considering buying one. Does anyone know if it is affected by overheating problems such as the Xbox?

i'm off to fortune town to have a look and i've told my bird who works in mbk to have a look for the usb/external set. You say the want to charge 8000 baht for it so i believe this is a bit on the expensive side right , so what is a good price ???. And does the ps3 suffer from over heating much ?? , according to dave111223 the x-box does and that is something we no likey :-(

1." get my console chipped so I can 15 games for the priceof 1 and get every new game as soon as it comes out BUT cannot play on-line ".

2." don't get my console chipped and can play on-line no probs BUT my games cost 1500 baht instead of 100 baht ".

Choice number 1 or choice number 2. Really is a tough one for me. I play Pro Evolution 85% of the time and would love to play it on-line but I also love buying loads of games in 1 go and that sunday afternoon off when I go through my library and play all day. Decisions decisions .............

dave111223, the xbox 360 hasnt had overheat issues since the first units were released a Looong time ago. all the current units dont suffer from that problem,

The first units (the pre-jasper) xboxs were poorly designed and had heat build up issues which would cause CPU failure after a time.

To the OP, the slims you buy in thailand should already be set up for copies. just like the older units you can buy here.

Good places to buy are gonna be MBK or pantip 1.

Dont go to any of the first floor sellers in pantip. they are outright thieves. I got a price from them for the new Kinects and they wanted 7900 baht, went up 2 floors and got it for 6200 baht. crazy eh?

I also believe the prices above for the ps3 are actually the prices for the ps2, but you'll find that out when you go to buy one. heh

So I ended up getting the new slim x-box 360 for 11,000 baht at MBK. I got it chipped so I can play copied games and 10 games free but only 1 pad , 2 grand for a jing jing one and 1500 baht for a copied one so I thought might aswell buy the jing jing one. The new Kinect device which sounds really sweet was available to buy for 6,500 baht but I got told that theres only 2 games you can play on it now and loads more will be coming out after new Year so I'll wait till then to buy that.

Cheers again lads for the advice :-)

scousemouse.

p.s - I get the x-box games for 80 baht , the ps3 games were 300 baht and that was one of the reasons I chose the x-box.

Mouse , there are about 20 games out atm for the kinects, I myself have about 7 of them. you have to download them however as most of the stores dont sell copy kinects stuff yet

/\ /\ Negative. All the prices I said were for a PS3. All what I paid. 5000 for an old, full size (large model) with small memory (40GB) well used.

Anyway, good luck scouse.

- PS3 (Thai version): 12,000 (Hong Kong version was 10,400 but apparently takes a long time to send for repairs if broken)

Yeah the above is pretty much the normal price for ps3.^^

I've got the kinect and about 12 games right now.. i think there were 25 titles available at release - not sure if the modded xbox will be able to use/play kinect games as it requires a software update when you install it and every game so far has had at least one download update as well...
