Urgent: Criminal Court issues warrant for Jatuporn's arrest

The Criminal Court Thursday issued an arrest warrant against Pheu Thai MP Jatuporn Promphan after he did not turn up for the first hearing in the trial of defamation lawsuit filed against him by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

Jatuporn sent his lawyer to inform the court that he wanted the first hearing to be postponed because he was awaiting the Supreme Court president's decision about his request for the change of the panel of judges in the case.

The court ruled that Jatuporn intended to avoid the trial so the court revoked his bail and issued an arrest warrant against him.

The court ordered police to take Jatuporn to court for the next hearing on December 14.

Jatuporn failed to make an appearance at the court in a defamation suit against him with Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva as the plaintiff. Latest reports indicate that Jatuporn is on his way to the Criminal Court.

You might want to go back to look at the 2007 election results, address the fact that Newin etc have dropped out of the PPP/PTP/TRT alliance etc. Then remember that after the arson etc that reds have lost some significant support from anyone that considers themselves moderates AND that their new "leader", Thida, Weng's wife isn't the most well liked woman due to her communist links.

The next elections look like something similar to what we have now. A Dem led coalition government.

People in the north were being paid money to vote for Mr. T. People were being paid to protest in Bangkok. They will be paid to vote again at the next election.

Average daily wage in Thailand is 250 - 300 baht a day. REMEBER: that's the average wage.

What do you think most from the north will do when offered 200 baht just to "tick a box?"

So, it is best to increase the daily wage to 2,000 to stop the vote buying problem.

Then remember that defections of Buriram etc will affect these numbers (BJT party). It doesn't ALL break down to illegal vote buying.

Does it really mater which one it is still breaking the law. Jatuprn is not above the law he is on Thaksins pay roll. His boss is the one who thinks he is above the law. He should be found guilty on all charges against him and given the strictest penalties. That might be hard on him but it would send the message that Thaksin can not protect you. And as has been shown will not.

I think our friend Serge would like to see these battles never enter the legal realm (where the truth is the issue) and would prefer them to be fought on a public stage. Thankfully, rule of law is being reestablished in Thailand.

Jatuporn is the biggest obstacle for reconciliation in this country, because of his bullish refusal to tell the truth - he's even worse than Suthep. I'm very glad they are trying to lock him up and I'm even gladder they are doing it in the correct way.

The difference now is the smaller parties.

The PPP didn't WIN the 2007 election. They were just able to get the smaller parties to support them.

Even if the PTP get the same number of seats (which is unlikely given the number of PPP/PTP MPs that have defected since the last election) they would STILL need to get the support of the smaller parties. They don't have their support now. How do they get it for the next election?

An arrest warrant wasn't issued for missing the hearing. His bail was revoked for missing the hearing.

Given that his bail has been revoked, he needs to be arrested again.

In other countries it would be described as a "bench warrant" and is 100% in the purview of the court when a defendant fails to appear. Translation issues arise when you try to use exact language from one system into another but in this case it seems to be clearly a warrant.

The good thing is that rule of law is returning to Thailand and due process is being followed.
