I got married to my Thai wife in September in Thailand. We just found out that I had 41 days overstay. I went to the Loas border and paid the 20,000 Baht fine. We are currently in Laos right now and will go to the Thai embassy soon to get a visa. Also a school in Thailand wants to hire me and will give me a work permit within 2-3 months.

Question 1: Which visa should I get when I return to Thailand? Should I get the Non Immigration O visa?

Question 2: or should I get the Multiple Immigration O visa?

Question 3: Can I work for this school (training) until they issue me a work permit (this school wants me start working and train me on Wednesday December 15th)?

This school wants to train (test) me to see if I am a good teacher or not for 2 months. Also I thought you need to have a work permit to work in Thailand so can this school really train me or test me. I want to make sure I'm not doing anything illegal in Thailand. I already made a mistake with the overstay :-( If any of you have suggestions for us please let us know. Thank you.

You need to ask the school which visa they want you to get, you are able to get a WP on a Non-imm O for being married, but some times companies/schools dont want to go down that line and want you to get a Non-imm B. They should have provided you with "paper work" and told you the process

While your WP is under consideration, you can work, but make sure the school is telling the truth, ie they have actually done an application, you will not have a WP by the 15th definite

Also 2-3 months seems a bit long to get a WP issued.

Also seems a bit strange that a school would apply for a WP, then put you on probation for two months, not trying to sound cynical here, but it seems to me they may be trying to get you to work without a WP (or application) for the probationary period, then decide they are getting you a WP

I would be asking more questions

I see no indication the school intends to apply for any work permit until after the 2 month period but it is not clear in post and likely not clear to poster. This may be normal for schools as most do not take work rules too seriously but it could be a risk for you.

1/2. You need to get the visa in Laos and it should be a non immigrant O (do not believe they will issue more than a single entry but you (wife) could ask).

3. I would ask that question in the teaching forum to judge current knowledge. Expect a gray area response.
