Lampang's four districts declared cold-spell disaster zones

The Lampang provincial administration Monday declared four districts in the province as cold-spell disaster zones.

Kritphet Phetcharaburanin, chief of Lampang Civil Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, said the four districts are Ngao, Wang Nua, Jaehom and Pan.

The cold spell has affected 170,000 people. So far, the provincial has distributed 50,000 blankets to the poor, he said.

Only two provinces remain flooded

Surat Thani and Phatthalung are the two provinces that remain flooded, a senior official said Monday.

Witthayen Muttamara, deputy director of the floods alleviation coordination centre, said 105,001 from 32,505 families in 130 villages in seven districts of the two provinces are still being affected by the flooding.

PM says election may be held early next year if situation remains peaceful

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said Monday that a general election may be held early next year if the situation remains peaceful after the lifting of the state of emergency in Bangkok.

But the prime minister declines to commit himself as to when the state of emergency would be lifted.

He said the Cabinet would not discuss the emergency lifting during the weekly meeting on Tuesday.
