Anyone Identify This Insect Please?

Featured Replies

Killed a few of these recently, looks like it may have a sting but I would like to know as I have a 7 week old baby in the house.

It looks like a wasp to me but what type i don't know. Have a look for nests under the eaves or in cavities around the house - usually they are a mud construction. Usually wasps will only sting (a sharp intense pain that lasts for a few minutes unlike a bee sting that can last for a considerable time) if they are threatened by approaching their nest. Hope this helps.

It looks like a mud wasp or "dirtdauber", a kind of wasp that preys on spiders that they burry underground as food to their growing larvae.

I don't think they are dangerous to humans though!?

Thanks guys, it looks like a blue or organ pipe mud dauber. Not aggressive towards humans.
