China and India to sign economic and trade deals

2010-12-13 21:33:21 GMT+7 (ICT)

BEIJING, CHINA (BNO NEWS) -- The governments of China and India are expecting to sign additional economic and trade agreements, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported on Monday.

Liang Wenzhao, deputy director of the Department of Asian Affairs of China's Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), said during a press conference on Monday that the bilateral cooperation agreements - which include trade, renewable energy, infrastructure and finance - are expected to be finalized during Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's upcoming visit to India.

An estimated value of the agreements was not immediately given by Liang, but Indian media have reported that they could be worth around $20 billion - including the recent deal in which Chinese Shanghai Electric Group would sell 36 sets of 660MW supercritical thermal generators valued at $8.29 billion to India-based Reliance Power.

Wen is scheduled to visit India from Wednesday to Friday and will be accompanied by a large Chinese delegation of around 100 senior representatives of the country's business sector.
