Village Head Candidate Attacked in Petchaburi Province

A village head candidate has been seriously injured in an attack in Phetchaburi province.

The motive is believed to be political.

A man has been seriously injured following a rampage by criminals travelling in a pick up truck in the western province of Phetchaburi.

The victim has been identified as 48 year Yothee Burananrom, an influential figure in Ban Laem district.

He said that on his drive home, he was suddenly shot by thugs in a pick up truck that drove by at high speed.

He sustained serious injuries to his right shoulder and the right side of his body.

The bullets shattered the right window, the right door, and the back of the truck.

Yothee went on to say that after fleeing seven kilometers, he arrived home and was brought to hospital by his relatives.

Doctors say he is now in a stable condition.

Police's initial speculation is that the attack was politically motivated as Yothee is a village head candidate.

Provinces Experience Odd Weather Patterns

The Meteorological Department has reported certain parts of the country experiencing odd weather patterns as temperature in some areas are as low as three to six degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, some provinces are expected to have off-season heavy downpours.

As temperature begins to drop once again to as low as 14 degrees Celsius in Kalasin province, the cold weather has affected the health of locals residing in remote mountainous areas.

Kalasin Public Health official Pisit Uawongkul

has circulated a letter to hospital and clinic directors urging them to keep an eye on the public's health by promoting daily exercises.

Efforts have also been made to educate those seeking warmth from bonfires that they could be exposed to toxic fumes.

Medical teams at various hospitals in Kalasin province have planned an itinerary to provide help to poor locals in need of medical services.

In Si Sa Ket, the dropping temperature has made blankets and second hand jackets popular items at flea markets across the province, with their prices ranging from 35 to 500 baht depending on condition and brands.

Si Sa Ket Public Health Office has warned locals to wash and sanitize the jackets and blankets before use in order to prevent skin diseases from bacteria and dust.

Meanwhile, many hospitals and clinics in Uthai Thani province have reported an increasing number of patients with respiratory ailments, including influenza.

Doctors have suggested that the public wear warm clothing and adopt a healthier way of living.

The Meteorological Department reported that temperature has also dropped in Vietnam and in northern parts of Laos.

The northeastern part of Thailand is expected to become significantly colder today.

Dark rain clouds are expected to cover the northern part of the country and bring heavy showers in some areas while the temperature could come down to as low as three to six degrees Celsius.
