Arrest warrant reissued for boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

LAS VEGAS (BNO NEWS) -- An arrest warrant has been issued for boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr. on a misdemeanor battery complaint for allegedly poking a security guard in the face, police said.

Th warrant was originally issued by a Las Vegas judge on December 8, requiring 33-year-old Mayweather to surrender himself to authorities or face arrest at any given moment. The warrant comes after the 9-time boxing world champ allegedly poked security guard Shayne Smith repeatedly on November 15 after receiving two parking tickets outside his home.

After the December 7 hearing, the arrest warrant was issued but quickly recalled. Prosecutors then complained about Mayweather receiving special treatment, alleging that he has had a history of dangerous behavior.

If convicted, Mayweather - who was let go after paying a $33,000 bail - will now be facing up to six months in prison and a $1,000 fine if found guilty.

In addition, Mayweather is also facing charges of felony robbery, coercion and grand larceny, misdemeanor domestic battery and harassment in relation to a September incident with his former girlfriend, Josie Harris, who is also the mother of his children.

Mayweather has maintained an undefeated boxing record with 41 wins, 25 of them being by way of knockout, and has been regarded on previous occasions as the world's best pound-for-pound boxer.

For the past year, talks have surrounded a highly-anticipated boxing match between Mayweather and Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao, but an agreement has constantly been called off for various reasons. Pacquiao is currently considered the world's best pound-for-pound boxer.
