Bangkok bar apologises after woman's head shaved

A host bar in Bangkok's Pinklao area has apologised after a woman had her head shaved over an alleged unpaid bill of nearly 60,000 baht.

The incident happened on August 25 and became public after Thai social activist Chalida Phalamat, known as Ton Aor Pen Nueng, shared details on TikTok. The venue later contacted Chalida to explain its side of the case.

Agreement signed instead of police report

According to Chalida, the bar said the woman had accumulated a bill of almost 60,000 baht but could not pay. It also alleged that she had used a fake identification card to enter the venue and had previously left other entertainment outlets without paying.

Rather than filing a police complaint, the manager reportedly had the woman sign an agreement allowing her hair to be cut and shaved in return for 3,000 baht. That amount was deducted from her drinks and service bill before her head was shaved.

The bar said the hair was given to one of its workers for donation, although it did not say where it would be donated.

Activist questions consent and response

Chalida questioned why the bar did not report the alleged unpaid bill to police and why the woman's head was shaved so extensively.

She said she understood that the business faced costs and that its employees depended on their income, but believed the response had gone too far. She also raised concerns that the woman's agreement may have been made under pressure.

Online reaction was divided. Some people said the bar's response was excessive, while others considered it justified.

Bar promises help after apology

The venue has apologised through Chalida and acknowledged that its manager acted rashly in anger. According to Chalida, the bar intends to contact the woman's family to discuss possible assistance following the incident.

Chalida has also asked social development officials to check the woman's living conditions and wellbeing. Her age remains unclear and she may be a minor.

She urged businesses dealing with unpaid bills or suspected fraud to contact police instead of imposing their own punishment.

I suppose it would not work for the UK tourists as nearly all of them are bald!

Hmm the bars have all big bills for their customers..A woman with a bill of 60k and last week a man with a bill 58k... Better can drink at home,, for such an amount I can have drinks for several weeks and less problems.

Last times I heard of this happening was when Dutch women were sleeping with the Germans during the war, and my ex wife when her boyfriend cut her hair very short so she wouldn't be attractive to other men, the day before she left to Germany to be with her husband.

Was a complimentary nose ring included?

60,000 baht bar bill and they shaved her head for 3,000 baht off the tab.

At that exchange rate, I’m surprised they didn’t take her eyebrows as a deposit. 😂

Maybe if enough people would pay to help with that, then her bill might get covered? Even if her groin area was 'uncovered'...

Why is she complaining?

If she was a foreigner, 10 Thai security guys would have kicked the sh*t out of her. 🙂

I still don't understand how a bar worker could rack up 60k in debts. Was she borrowing from the mamasan to gamble or for some other cause?

In any case, it's her own behaviour that got her in to this situation.

More to follow.....upward trend for sure. A lineup of 25 bald chaps who can barely stand on a photo op? Oh boy.

I don't understand the business model.

If you went to the hospital and the bill was 60,000 baht they would probably either ask for a certain amount or make an educated guess the feasibility of the person being able to pay the bill.

The Bars/Clubs seem to operate by the we don't care until it's time for you to pay the bill if you have the money or not.

Surprised the bar owner/manager let her rack up that much on the bin.

The first line says it’s a host bar

She lost her head full of hair for some male “company”

She wasn't a worker she was a customer.

Strange suggestion and actions from the manager.

Why was the billed allowed to mount up to 60,000 baht from a femail customer then shaving her head for 3000 baht. Not a stella enployee.

Yes. So if it's a 'host' bar, and she's a customer (that wasn't clear to me) then presumably she was hunting for a boyfriend there. Or just some male company and was pretending she was richer than she is. She looks quite good (petite) judging from the cropped photos, and I doubt she would have trouble getting male attention anywhere. So, yes she may well have had some other troubling issues. Still, as others point out, why let the bill get so high?

Some of the shenanigans going on in Pattaya are hair-raising. We have to face the bald truth.

Many of the bald customers there could only wish..

Sounds a good deal for the girl.

If I was owed 50’000 I’d have wanted to shave her minge .

If she agreed to having her hair shaved off what's the big deal

Saved her some money

No they all had their heads shaved for doing the same in UK- that is why they come to Thailand

I guess she drank at least 500 drinks without paying...

60k is the price of male company in that host bar I guess lol

She must have had a lot of “company”

Well at least they make some really good wigs here. She’ll have to wear it for a long time, but she still has to figure out how to pay the rest of the bill off. That’s going to be the hardest part, and she really sounds like she needs some other help.
