Where To Phone & Ask For Plants By Scientific Name

Featured Replies

Hi I'm new to BKK and seek some certain plants for my garden. Can anyone please suggest garden centre's that I can phone to ask for plants by scientific name (or common name).Mainly being able to phone a knowledgable centre is what I'd like as it just takes too long to drive & shop around in & around BKK.Thanks :)

The best place to buy plants here in BKK is the plant wholesale market at Chatuchack (JJ) market (same location as the weekend market) on Wednesday and Thursday early morning. The best selection, almost everything available in Thailand, you will find early Wednesdays before the exporters and landscaping companies show up to clear the available stock.

When you go there make sure you have a Thai speaking person with you and you know the plant name in Thai. Many smaller growers there won't know the botanical names.

It helps if you have color prints of the plants you are looking for.

We (plant exporter) purchase about 70% of our plants there. If you want to know some Thai names send us the botanical names (NOT common name) and we'll see if we have them in our data base. Apart from some aquatic plants (Water lilies and some pond plants) we do not sell locally since plants are very cheap here and we only would drive the price up. Aquatic plants we grow in our own ponds.

You can find us on the world wide web using my login name and add a dot com to it.

I can't answer your question, but this may help you and others. http://www.plantnames.unimelb.edu.au/Sorting/Thai_index_general.html

And the classic: "Prueksa Pan: Plants in Thailand" about 1500 baht in Thai section of bookstore. --- has photos and indexes with plant names
