Wow thats some dam_n good info mate. And where did you get this wisdom from? Most of us here are under the understanding that the "media black-out" is part of the " Emergency state law" therefore when THAT is lifted, so would be the Media black-out so if you care to elaborate on you words of wisdom ? Oops, I meant "WORD" of wisdom

No need really to elaborate (but I will a little), those that have lived here a while will have seen the ongoing and rapidly expanding blocking of websites which started and accelerated well before any troubles started here and that had nothing to do with the Emergency Decree. Their reasons (in their own small xenophobic minds) for blocking the websites will remain the same whether the ED is in effect or not.

As Mike mentions, the blocking is really a waste of time as there are always ways around these blocks that can be found very easily with a quick Google search. Their blocking is also not very good overall it seems as in a large number of cases, the website domain name might be blocked whilst the IP address is still available, or alternatively they block an IP address and consequently not only block the 1 x website they want to stop but also all others using that IP on that shared hosting server. Lots of problems and complaints out there for those interested enough to search for them.

I can understand blocking websites that criticise the Monarchy (lese majeste) as this is against the law and clearly something Thai's feel strongly about. In most other cases however I am a firm believer in freedom of speech and freedom of expression and I think that people should have access to any and all information available and to be able to make their own decisions. They are even now blocking websites/article/blogs that criticise or report about this internet censorship which should give you an idea of their mindset. Last count I heard was 100,000+ sites blocked . . .

(waits for this entry to be blocked . . . )

I fear the answer "No" is correct.

Organisations rush to put blocks in place, but rarely remember to reverse the process. :bah:

Now I may be wrong.............

Thanks astral, at least 1 person agrees with me lol

I hope they do reverse their decision to block websites, but with certain peoples use of logic here I think it unlikely . . . losing face and all that :whistling:

He probably got it from experience living in Thailand. I would also guess 'no', because unblocking sites would require someone to get off their backside and do some work.

I have tried to get a legitimate (government) site unblocked once before. It was quite a while ago now, but at the time there was simply *no process* for unblocking a site. There was nowhere to apply and nobody to complain to, short of starting a court case.
