Gaza rocket injures teenage girl in central Israel

GAZA STRIP (BNO NEWS) -- A teenage girl was injured on Tuesday when a rocket struck near a kindergarten in a kibbutz community in central Israel, not far from Gaza, the Jerusalem Post reported.

The Kassam rocket landed in a school area in Ashkelon beach, exploding in an open field and injuring a 14-year-old teenager who was in a shower in a nearby building. Four other individuals were treated for shock.

"We were lucky," said Ilan Goldsmith, community manager at Kibbutz Zikim,. "It exploded at a quarter to eight this morning, the exact time when parents are bringing their children in."

A group calling itself the 'Army of Islam' took responsibility for Tuesday's rocket attack. and reportedly has the same 'global jihad' ideology as Al-Qaeda. It claimed that the attack was a response to the three members who were killed during an Israeli attack last month.

Approximately ten children were on the school grounds when the Kassam rocket struck. A teacher said that she ignored the alarm siren and quickly left her vehicle to gather the children and keep them busy.

In response to the attack, the Israel Air Force (IAF) struck a series of terror targets such as a Hamas training camp, smuggling tunnels along Gaza's border with Egypt and other unpopulated areas. Terror tunnels in northern Gaza were also targeted.

Since the beginning of 2010, more than 200 Grad missiles, Qassam rockets and mortar shells fired from the Gaza Strip have landed in Israeli territory.

On Monday, ten mortar shells were fired into the Eshkol regional council in southern Israel, but there were no reports of injuries. The attack came soon after an Israeli Air Force (IAF) air strike killed five Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip on Saturday.

The Israeli government holds Hamas, classified as a terrorist organization by most countries, solely responsible for maintaining the calm in the Gaza Strip and for any terrorist activity emanating from it. "The IDF will also continue to respond harshly to any attempt to use terror against the State of Israel," it warned.

In the winter of 2008-2009, Israel launched a surprise airstrike against the Gaza Strip which marked the beginning of a three-week military conflict between Israel and Hamas, killing nearly 1,500 people and leaving thousands more injured and displaced. Israel stated its aim was top stop rocket fire from and arms import into Gaza.

Well, one way is to prevent the production of the rockets. That's up to Hamas.

The rocket propellant is derived from water, sugar and potassium nitrate. Urea nitrate is used to make the explosive.

Urea nitrate and potassium nitrate are common fertilizers. Israel had attempted to restrict the importation of the fertilizers to agricultural use, There was a calculation used to match the fertilizer to the agricultural use. Unfortunately, the folks that get themselves into a tizzy over the control of such imports protested vociferously. The Israelis were preventing the poor Gaza people from farming they claimed. It didn't matter that the importation of the fertizer far exceeded the agricultural safe needs. The Israelis were being mean. The reason Israel attempts to restrict the importation of metal tubing and the equipment used to fabricate the rockets is because the material is easily diverted to military use. Hamas has the option of stopping the rockets. It has chosen not to.

Even if these attacks were "false flag" operations which I am becoming more and more convinced that they are not, Hamas has the responsibility of getting to the facts of the matter and doing what they can to put a stop to them. For those who argue human rights for the Palestinians, these attack make those arguments seem quite foolish.

Indeed, the Hamas rocket attacks on civilians make the people who try to justify such barbaric acts look foolish, but the more that is pointed out to them, the more they try to blame Israel for the things that it is forced to do in self-defense. :ermm:
