Hi,

First of all I just want to say that I appreciate this website and all that you do for expats!

I entered thailand on nov 11 with a 30 day tourist visa( i am from USA), and then when expired i went to ranong myanmarr for a visa run. They only gave me 14 days. Now it is about to expire and I need to go for another visa run.

What would you recommend as the least expensive and longest visa stay route?

I have been hired by a company and waiting to hear back if they can give me papers for a B visa before sunday. If I have the papers for a B visa, can I go to myanmarr for the visa run and get more than 14 days? I really think it is a waste of money and time to go for only a 14 day visa. Please help me!

Im not sure whether I should go to malaysia, singapore or myanmarr. If i do not have B papers, can I fly to malaysia and stay in airport for about one hour or so and then return? If so, how long of a visa will I get?

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you!

None of what you are talking about is a Visa.

They are Visa exempt entries.

If you enter by air you get 30 days. If you enter by land you get 15 days.

You need to go to a Thai Consulate in another country and get a Tourist Visa. This would give 60 days and can be extended at Immigration for a further 30 days.

Tourist Visas are free at the moment and some Consulates will even issue a double entry free of charge.

If you get the correct paperwork from the company and apply for a Work Permit you would need to visit a Consulate and apply for a Non Imm B Visa.

You don't have a visa right now. That means if you enter Thailand by air you get 30 days and if you enter by land you get 15 days.

If you have the papers to get a non-B visa, go to a Thai consulate abroad with the correct papers and apply fro a visa there.

I just spoke with company and they will give papers for B visa. People are telling me that I cannot go to myanmarr because there is no consulate, is this true?

If so, would it be best to go to Malaysia or Singapore? If I go to Malaysia, how long do I need to stay there before I can depart for thailand?

Thanks for your help!

There is a Consulate/Embassy in all the countries. They are talking about the border area - you must travel inland to a Royal Thai Consulate. In most places this requires apply morning and pick up next workday afternoon (in Cambodia it may be several days later). There is no requirement to stay longer than required to obtain what you want.

So if I travel to myanmarr or burma and get a hotel, I can stay for just as long as it takes to get paperwork from embassy? (assuming there is a thai royal consulate in burma)

thanks again for your help!

A few people have told me that I cannot travel by land, that if I travel by land I will only get 14 days, and that I have to fly. Is that true even if I have paperwork for B Visa?

If you get the non-B visa, you will get 90 days whether you arrive by air or land transport.

Burma is difficult to travel to, unless you go by plane. That is why oher palces like,Vientiane are advised.
