BURIRAM HAS HAD 95 HOMES DAMAGED BY STORMS THIS MONTH

During August, Buriram Province had been hit by 16 severe storms, damaging almost 100 residences, totalling about 980,000 baht.

Buriram Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Chief Phornchet Saengthong (พรเชษฐ์ แสงทอง) has indicated that since the start of the month, 16 storms had hit the province, in addition to 5 fires. 95 homes were damaged and 161 people were affected. In addition, one cow was killed after a tree was struck by lighting, which fell on it, while 5 other cows were injured. However, no human casualties were reported from the incident.

Destroyed homes in the province are entitled to receive up to 30,000 baht in cash each for compensation. If the house was partly damaged, then the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office would provide assistance money as needed, but the expense has been capped at 20,000 baht. In cases of fatalities from disasters, families are entitled to 15,000 baht per death, whereas a death of a family leader would fetch 25,000 baht.

The Buriram Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office has also warned of further rainstorms and violent winds during this season.
