Greetings!

I know that many farang do freelance work in Thailand on tourist visas or other non-work visas, but if one has a family (non-Thai) with children that need to be registered at school, etc, then it seems prudent to walk the straight and narrow. I'm trying to gather what information I can find now before the point of no return. Any advice would be much appreciated.

  • Freelance work via an established business?
  • Buying a business visa?
  • Working on a retirement visa? (forbidden, I know, but some do)
  • Other freelance visa work options?

Thank you, BB

You cant really work freelance in the Thailand, the way you know it, I imagine you are from the UK ?.

The only real option you have is to start a THB 2.0mil Ltd company and employ 4 Thai nationals and rent yourself out, if married to a Thai national requirements are halved ie 1.0 mil, + 2 Thais.

The other way is to approach some of the bodyshops (employment agencies) and see if you can set a deal up with them, ie they put you on their books, with one of their WP's for a a fee, plan on 15-18% cut, so may be not the most cost effective option

If you are a U.S. citizen you can register a business more easily, e.g. without having Thai employees, under the Amity Treaty. Search this forum for more info, if interested.
