Murdered vice mayor captures killer in photo in Philippines

MANILA, PHILIPPINES (BNO NEWS) -- A photograph on Tuesday was released by the family of Councilman Reynaldo Dagsa who was murdered one day before in Caloocan City in Philippines, the Philippine Daily Inquirer newspaper reported.

Councilman Reynaldo Dagsa of Barangay was killed after a man fired at him outside his home in Maypajo, Caloocan City, just after midnight on Saturday. He was taking a picture of his wife and daughter when he was shot.

The Dagsa family was standing on Tuna Street when a suspected car thief he had sent to jail appeared from behind a parked car and shot many times at him. The councilman was able to take the picture and the suspect appeared in it.

The gunman, Michael Gonzales, is depicted in the photo pointing a .45-caliner pistol at Dagsa. The councilman was rushed to the Martinez Hospital where he died on arrival due to the wounds sustained on his right forearm and chest.

On Tuesday, authorities announced that the relatives of Dagsa showed the pictures to investigators, who later arrested Gonzales, also known as "Fish Pond Area I," and resident of Barangay.

Gonzales was arrested late Monday afternoon in Dagupan, Manila. He admitted that a second man seen behind him in the picture was his accomplice. The suspect was identified as Rommel Oliva, alias "Balong" who served as a lookout.

Later, a second lookout was identified as Francis Bumjal who was at the scene but does not appear in the picture. The police have now launched a manhunt for the two suspects at large.

Dagsa had the suspects arrested last year as they are known car thieves out on bail. According to authorities, this might be the cause of the crime.
