AFULA, ISRAEL (BNO NEWS) -- A 20-year-old man was killed on Tuesday after a car bomb explosion near a post office in northern Israel, the Jerusalem Post reported.

The attack took place on Tuesday evening in the city of Afula, killing a man when a grenade planted in his vehicle exploded. His wife sustained minor injuries in the incident.

The young man, who was not immediately identified, was rushed by ambulance to the Ha'emek hospital where he died soon afterwards due to the critical injuries he sustained. Police forces sealed off the site where the explosion occurred.

Although authorities initially feared the blast could have been a terrorist attack, an initial investigation headed by Amakim police indicates the attack was criminally-motivated.
