On Monday I will being departing Thailand en route to Kuala Lumpur to apply for my type "O", reason? Married to a Thai national.

The RTE in KL opens at 0930AM and I intend to be early.

According to the website I require:

2. Dependent Visa (Dependent of spouse or parent possessing Thai nationality)

1. Visa application form duly filled out.

2. Applicant passport valid not less than 6 months. The validity of 18 months is

required for one-year visa application.

3. Copy of passport.

4. (4x6cm.) Photograph(s) of the applicant, taken within the past 6 months.

5. Original and copy of official marriage certificate (For spouse).

6. Original and copy of official birth certificate (For children).

7. Copy of Thai identity card (of spouse or parent).

8. Copy of Thai House registration (of spouse or parent).

9. Bank Statement with a minimum deposit of 100,000 Bath

All of this is fairly routine stuff, but am worried about the financials.

Here is what I am bringing:

Current statement from my US bank showing well over 40,000 a month deposited, and 150,000baht available

My wife's bank book showing over 40,000 each month and 175,000 available

I am also bringing my US military retirement statement showing monthly net pay over 70,000 baht and my current employers statement of work showing 3,373,006 Baht annually.

I am also worried about the photo. The application states 3.5cm X 4.5cm, whereas the website states 4X6cm. Perhaps I will bring both.

I'm sure I am stressing over nothing, but I always believe that "chance" favors the prepared.

Thoughts?

They also like a letter written by your wife requesting them to issue a Visa.

More than Baht 100,000:- in the Bank Book or current Bank statement or a Bank Letter is all they need plus the other documents of course.

Your wife's income is of no consequence.

Your income is enough to get an extension of stay based on either marriage or retirement, with the last one being by far the easiest (unless you work in Thailand).

The income is determined gross anyway, not after tax.

What kind of visa are you now on?

Edit: based on retirement will require you to be 50 years or older.

As Mario said, why not get a 12 month extension from Thai Immigration.

1,900 Baht fee.

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

And if you get the 1 yr extension you wont have to run for the border every 90 days, you could report by post each 90 days.(if you want)

Just remember if you go this route to get your re-entry permit at the same time you apply for the extension.:jap:

You can get a re-entry permit at your local area immigration office, and it certainly doesnt have to be on departure either, based on my own personal experience.

Whilst the above may be ONE method it is certainly NOT the ONLY method as it implies

Thanks phutoie2 for the link to the Airport website.

As CharlieH pointed out you can also get a Re Entry Permit at your local Immigration Office.

As said it is now possible to get it at the airport.

Personally for me Immigration would be the preferred option as I would not like to leave it until the last minute.

No visa, only an entry stamp. I fly to Africa ever two weeks. My reason behind even getting a visa is to get my DL.

I'm not near age 50. Thanks though.

Your age is not a factor for a "Thai wife" extension of stay. You get a letter from the US Embassy of your 70k per month income and take the normal marriage documentation to Immigration with wife and 1,900 baht/TM7 form and get a one year extension of stay. Only an income of 40k per month is required for that so you should not have any problems. Just look up what is required for paperwork.

If you don't currently have a non immigrant visa entry and have made the reservations just getting a single entry visa will give you a 90 day stay to get the paperwork together and no proof of financials are likely to be required for that. Single entry is much cheaper and getting the extension of stay will avoid having to leave every 90 days (unless that is your desire).

Great information. Thanks to everyone. I'll update upon my return.
