Post Office Rules In Thailand - Ebay Related

Does someone know if there are restrictions to send items by regular mail from a thai post office.

I sell stuff from Ebay and I'd like to know if i can do deliveries without problems from any post office.

could you be more specific regarding nature of goods you plan to sell?

I am sure there are restricted items (obvious ones like drugs, indian hemp for example and perhaps less obvious ones perhaps like Bhuddist artifacts..)

A trip down to your local P.O. to have a chat with the Post Master would be in order me thinks!

I agree with previous poster. You are going to have trouble shipping narcotics, cigarettes, alcohol, kiddie porn, fissionable materials, statue heads from Angkore Wat, surface to air missiles, elephant tusks, pangolins, panda gall bladders, etc.

If you are too concerned about your activities to actually state what it is you wish to ship, maybe you ought to move on to another country?????

I would think if they wanted to nab you , then copyright stuff is illegal too , Computer software and registred trademarks,

All joking aside, doesn't bolognamare have a good question here regarding customs issues, and whatnot? I guess the custom side would be at the destination, but you're supposed to declare the contents when you ship, so there may be forms to fill out and other hassles, not to mention expenses that might reduce the profits.

The quantity and frequency would make a difference too, eh?

I have never had a problem sending stuff but have lost several packages that were sent to me. My friend had two harddrives "lost". They made it to Thailand and to his frondoor but he wasnoot in. When he went to the PO they had no trace of it.

postage costs and ebay/paypal fess eat into your profit. Find a niche product that you can guage money on or sell many smaller times and run around like a headless chicken.

You might get lucky and find a good product to sell (but do not tell anyone what it is). You might also make a smallbit of beer money for a lot of hardwork.

Best advice is to to a spreadsheet and tally up your profit and loss each week.

The only reason I still ebay is because it is an easy way to ship money into my UK account without actually transferring anything (and making a slight profit as well).

I sell designer style sunglasses on Ebay here in USA. My question would be, is there tracking and insurance on Thai mail, if not, then if your customer uses paypal they can get refunds even if you item delivers. You have to have a tracking number to prove you sent it, thats why I quit selling international.

Can you describe the steps of your typical delivery (without the product information of course )?

Do you need to fill a form where you declare what you are sending?

Are there restrictions for food?

Do you use "tips" to declare as less as possible?

Can you post the cheapest rates for different packages (from 0 to 30 kg)?

To send packages outside Thailand do you need to do customs declarations? If yes what are the rates? Do You have to declare a value proved with a receipt? Can you do it as a private?

Can you post a scanned picture of the forms?

Has the Thailand Post a website with all informations?

I want to make delivery tests next summer during my next holiday in the LOS.

I use the Central Festival post office in Phuket.

They speak some English and have a price list.

The ones in Patong are scammers and refused to let me post items at airmail prices, they tried to make me pay EMS (and I had a Thai transaltor with me).

Use EMS if you send expensive items.

Never declared anything to customs, never been asked.

If you register an item then you fill out a small reciept form. I don't usually bother.

Rates are available on the Thai Post website, they have an english language function but the site is slow.

I use Airmail (two weeks to the EU or US) and have used economy Airmail before (one month).

I am not ebaying at the moment as have gotten a job and am busy but will do in the future as it is a great way to transfer money to the UK without paying fees.

You should have a spreadsheet to calculate profit/loss, a digital camera and keep note of everything you buy and sell. Start small and expect to make a loss at first. Sell medium priced goods that can make you at least $5 then you won't have to run around mailing hundreds of items.

You won't have a problem exporting goods from the Thai Post Office. I'd recommend using EMS each time even if it is a bit more expensive. Delivery times are reliable (4 days to UK), they do free pick-ups from your location, they're tracked until they leave the country (once they're in UK I think the tracking number changes when ParcelForce pick them up).

They're happy for the business and as far as declarations go, that's up to you what you put on the form for the destination Customs to see. You will need a pseudo-vat number if you plan to ship serious quantities regularly though, available from HMCE. EMS airmail goes up to 20kg boxes, multiple boxes are fine. A 20kg box costs just over 8000 baht.

If your shipping goods of any reasonable value I wouldn't recommend it though. I've just had one parcel go missing...ironicly when it arrived in the UK airport and EMS is only insurable up to 7000 baht. Use FedEX etc. for that although expect major hassle and headaches when you do.

I have questions about the feasibility of using eBay to sell some items I brought here 3 years ago.

I have been trying to simplify my life by getting rid of a lot of excess stuff I’ve collected over the years. In the process of doing this I need to sell some nice, expensive guitars, recording equipment and art. I’ve tried selling it in Thailand without a lot of success. The preferred market for these items is probably in the US, Australia, and Europe.

Generally these are fairly large, heavy items. Weight of the heaviest items would probably be around 25 kilos, and the value of most items would be in the $500 - 4,000 range. I’m concerned about a number of issues.

The cost of shipping these items might make the sales price non-competitive to begin with. Does anyone have any suggestions on safe, secure, insured shipping from Thailand?

Are there any export/import duties or other costs I should be aware of?

Are there any other problems associated with this that I haven’t foreseen? What do I need to know about Thai and foreign govt. restrictions, eBay and PayPal problems?

I have a 100% eBay rating as buyer and sometime seller since 2000. I have had a PayPal account for that length of time as well, and all my funds (withdrawals and deposits) have been through the same US bank the entire time. Only my address and country of residence has changed. As far as I know PayPal and eBay both still think I’m in the US as I haven’t sold anything in the 3 years since moving here, and everything I’ve bought gets sent to an American relative’s address, and they re-send it to me.

PayPal has told me that I need to close my account and reopen a new one to make everything consistent with my living and dealing in Thailand. I’m not sure what eBay will require if I change my address to here. I’m hoping I won’t loose my seller/buyer status.

I’m sure that some of you have been down this path before - any advice, warnings, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Buzzer i've just changed my ebay address when auctions wouldn't allow buyers from australia to bid... never had no problem changing my address back to australia.
