Koh Talu

Featured Replies

First time on this board and would not normally bother with this sort of thing but felt compelled to share this with you.

Recently spent a month in LOS, hired a car, travelled from Phuket to Bangkok. Lovely counrty, seriously considering moving out there from the UK.

Sadly, throughout our entire trip from South to North there was one very, very low point.

Tempted at the tought of a couple of days on a private island, just off Bang Saphan, via speedboat we decided to book two days on Koh Talu island. It seemed a bit expensive at around 80 GBP (later found it on the internet at half that price - still nowhere near worth it) but thought "what the heck".

The worst mistake of our entire month's holiday!

This place is a total ripoff from start to finish and I would not reccomend it to my worst enemy.

Very basic accomodation, inadequate air con, no facilities to speak of (not even a bar - small stall selling over priced small cans of lager!)

Food was bland, pre cooked (and cold/rubbery) to the extent that each meal we had was surreptitiously fed to the dogs that congregated around the tables, obviously used to receiving more than just the odd mouthfull. To top it off the service was non existant - save an over enthusatic 'camp commandant' who insisted we go kayaking as soon as our feet touched his hallowed shores!

In short it was a very expensive prisoner of war camp!!!

We were so appalled that we tried to make arrangements to get off the god forsaken ###### hole early but our requests were looked upon in amazement by the aforementioned commandant (I am sure that I saw a think bubble above his head saying "No one leaves this island early and we hav vays of making you enjoy yourself!!!)

For the sake of the Thai staff (conscripts) there I have tried to paint the rosiest picture possible of this island - if I was really to go into detail...

All I can say that if you plan to visit this island - please inform your next of kin first!
