Will Overstay 2 Days - Problem Or Not ?

Featured Replies

hi guys apologies if im repeating a topic i came from NZ for 1 month holiday with my thai wife arrived xmas day leaving 24th jan 11. i thought that it would be under ythe one month but i just checked my passport stamp and the visa is only up until 22 jan. Do i need to spend a day and 1900bt dealing with bureauracy at immigration office in bangkok and get visa extended or can i just leave the country and or pay a 200bt per day fine at the airport. thanks in advance

The fine is B500 per day, no problems to pay at airport.

better paid 1900 baht save more trouble if some police ask you for look at you passport and you over stay you going in jail up to you

i agree, for the sake of trying to save 900b and a few hours spent going to immigration the repercussions of getting caught are definitely not worth it.

The chance of anyone asking to see your passport is really slim - in 40 years I have been asked one time by police, and only because on a border road. A two day overstay by a real tourist should not be an issue and have not even seen any reports of travelers on border crossings trips having problems for several year. But yes, I would always recommend having proper extension of stay and avoiding overstay stamp in passport.

The fine will be 1,000 Baht and should not be a problem.

Personally I would always get the appropriate Visa or get the extension if short of days.

But that's just me. :whistling:

I would not waste half a day just getting an extension for a couple of days.

Every topic on this subject attracts those who warn about getting stopped by the police and put in jail for overstay - it just don't happen.

I have lived here more than 16 years, never carry my passport and never asked to produce it.

Save your time and money and just pay on the way out, and allow a few minutes extra to do so

Consider that having an overstay up till now doesn't seem to be a problem in getting a new visa. But they do stamp your passport that you were on overstay and there are no guarantees that the current policy won't change.

Best is always to stay legal.

Dont know where you are or what your travel plans are but the other alternative if you are near a border is pop over and back and you'll get another 15 days (by land, 30 days by air)

Stay legal is always best option.:jap:

I have also been here 10 years and have never been asked to see my passport. Last year I paid the 18,000 baht overstay and all the did at the boarder was laugh and ever since then when I go to a boarder crossing and the see it they also just laugh and say "You want stay over in my country"?

As if any police would ever actually put you in jail for 2 days over stay. That is a joke.

Do not listen to any of these people and just pay the 1000 baht when you leave.

I thought the max fine was 20,000b, or did you overstay by 36 days ?
