Actress Anne Hathaway to play Catwoman in next Batman movie

LOS ANGELES (BNO NEWS) -- Oscar-nominated actress Anne Hathaway is to take on the role of Catwoman in Christopher Nolan's next Batman movie, "The Dark Knight Rises," the studio said Wednesday.

Studio sources told MTV that Hathaway will be portraying Selina Kyle, who is also known as Catwoman, while Tom Hardy will take the role of the villainous character Bane.

Hathaway, 28, of Brooklyn, New York, received several awards and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as Rachel in 2008's 'Rachel Getting Married.' She began getting national attention for her Princess Mia role in Disney's 'The Princess Diaries,' before appearing in 'Havoc' and 'Brokeback Mountain.'

Hathaway later starred in 'The Devil Wears Prada,' and most recently appeared in 2010 box office hits 'Valentine's Day,' Tim Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland,' and 'Love and Other Drugs.'

With the international success of Nolan's previous two Batman movies, 'Batman Begins' and 'The Dark Knight,' Hathaway's upcoming role as Catwoman could represent another important turning point in her already growing acting career.
