Can someone confirm re-entry permits are (a) available and (B) quickly obtainable at the airport these days? I would get one at the BKK Immigration Office but its such a nightmare there, today I wasted 4 hours queuing for a 90-day visa extension and still it wasn't processed by the end of the day and I have to go back tomorrow. <deleted> don't they just employ a few more staff to ease the queues? Its been like this since they opened the thing. It never used to take so long at Suan Pluu, even though the place was tiny in comparison. I'm assuming they just can't get the staff that far out of town?

Anyway, back to the topic, I really really don't want to have to go through another marathon queuing session at Caeng Wattana - can I just get the re-entry permit when I fly out???

thanks

You can also apply for one at suan plu.

But members have reported re-entry visas are availeble at the airport, it also states so on the immigration website. Officially you need to have a valid reason, but I don't believe they ask.

Suan Plu is much more convenient - is it still open on Saturday, I'm sure it used to be? .......

My information is that you only can apply for the re-entry permit at the same location which issued the visa extension. ( if the visa extension was issued within Thailand )

Normally airports do not issue re-entry permits but they have the authority to issue the re-entry permits in emergency situations at the officers discretion. ( it is a big risk if you rely on that )

You extend a permission to stay, which can only be done in Thailand.

As said, immigratiotion at the airport officially requires a reason to issue, but they now seem to have a very easy interpretation of the rules. But indeed, best is not to take your chances and apply at your own office if you can. Better safe than sorry.
