Hi - I'm from a visa exempt country (australia) and want to go to Thailand later this year, i have criminal history for drugs. I've done some research and people have told me that when your staying on a tourist visa for less than 30 days they don't ask about ur criminal history, is this true??

As said, you will have no problems with visa on entry. But keep it in mind that if you become involved in DRUGS in Thailand the penalities are harsh and the prisons are not motels like Australia.

You will be OK. They also don't ask for a criminal record check for a 60 day tourist visa. I believe that one is also not required for a work visa, although it is a requirement for a work permit.

Keep off the grass.

when did criminal check for a WP start ?

I don't know when it began, but to clarify it applies primarily to teachers, who may or may not be working with children.

Some embassies in 'home' countries require it before issuing a 'B' visa, some consulates in neighbouring SEA countries require it; some schools state that it is required in the person specification; but TIT.:ermm:

Its not a general requirement, but is a requirement for some "teachers"
