Protesters clash with police in Davos

2011-01-30 08:22:43 GMT+7 (ICT)

DAVOS, SWITZERLAND (BNO NEWS) -- Swiss police on Saturday fired rubber bullets at anti-globalization demonstrators who were throwing objects at officers near the World Economic Forum conference in Davos, local daily newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung reported.

Around 120 protesters gathered near the railway station, close to the conference center, threw beer bottles, stones and snow balls at riot police in an attempt to disrupt the Forum. The police in turn fired rubber bullets and sprayed water from fire hoses.

According to a police source, one passerby was injured, but the damage was said to be minimal.

The protests were organized by the local Green Party and socialists, who were chanting slogans against the Forum and capitalism. Protester waved banners saying "Your standards: exploitation and oppression, Our response: solidarity and class struggle" or "Tunis = Cairo = Davos."

According to the Swiss newspaper, several camera crews were attacked by protesters but none were injured.

On Thursday, Swiss anarchists claimed responsibility for a small 'explosion' in a hotel where executives were meeting. Nobody was hurt in the incident.

Every January, international political and business leaders, journalists and intellectuals meet in the Swiss ski resort of Davos to discuss pressing global issues.

"Tunis = Cairo = Davos."

what a slogan for an anti anti-globalisation protest. Why not add Naypyidaw + Pyongyang + Harare? The top 3 globalisation-free cities.
