has anyone heard or tried entering laos on a free tourist visa. i heard it shoul be possible to obtain until the end of february 2011

Well, I can tell you there is no free tourist visa if going by way of visa on arrival. I was just there two days ago doing a run and it was the standard US$30.

Going by way of applying beforehand maybe. I'd be interested to know this as well...

I've been to Lao twice, I got charged an EXIT fee this time, i didn't get charged last time. Good to see it's consistent

I suspect you may have been informed a free tourist visa is available from the Royal Thai Consulate in Vientiane for Thailand until March 2011?
