It always amazes me how Thais never follow up on works. You click on these mr room finder links and these rental properties are still on their website since 2005. Are these apartments vancant all this time? or mr. roomfinder simply did not bother to take it off the site? Anyone looking for an apartment would be wasting their time browsing through these websites and contacting these agents. Amazing Thailand!!!

Hi Scott123

It always amazes me how Thais never follow up on works. You click on these mr room finder links and these rental properties are still on their website since 2005

Ok, let me respond to you criticisms here, as I’m the webmaster of the MrRoomfinder website.

Firstly, apartment buildings (not individual residences offered by agents or private landlords), are advertising the project as a whole and not promoting single rooms as they become available. Therefore rooms come and rooms go all the time, and a simple phone call from the comfort of home or office will determine whether they currently have any rooms available. So yes, they have been online from the start, and will probably be on the site for many years to come should they remain in business.

Are these apartments vancant all this time? or mr. roomfinder simply did not bother to take it off the site?

SO DO THEY UPDATE THEIR ADS?

With apartment buildings, an email is sent out automatically every 6 weeks to ask managers of these buildings to update their ad(s) if there are changes to prices, availability, special promotions, contact details, and so on. If they do nothing, then one can only assume that all remains the same and they will not hear from the site again for another 6 weeks.

There’s nothing I can physically do to chase up and verify that all properties on the site are correct and updated from all project owners. MrRoomfinder is a free-for-all and every advertiser has full control over their ads through their free account.

With regards to ads for individual condos and other homes which are advertised by private landlords and agencies, they automatically get the above email every 30 days asking them the same questions. The difference is this; If they do not respond to that mail by refreshing their ad(s), then they system automatically deletes that ad 1 week after the mail is sent out. This helps to keep the database fresh,

Anyone looking for an apartment would be wasting their time browsing through these websites and contacting these agents. Amazing Thailand!!!

See above. And not all ads are submitted by agents. There are a lot of private ads on the site too. Only today (Tuesday 22), I have authorised 5 more private ads for condos, and they just keep on coming.

Is it perfect? No, of course it’s not, but it ain’t half bad! The database is lively and has new places being added and old places being removed all the time. So I would say ‘yes’, of course it’s worth browsing through these property websites. I (Mr. Roomfinder) am not an agency nor do I get personally involved with private landlords or agencies. I simply operate a free-for-all website which helps put tenants in touch with available properties in and around the greater Bkk area.

With regards to no one replying to emails, it has been my experience that email correspondence in Thailand is the worst possible way to communicate. I don’t know why this is, but it just is. Even multinationals over here often don’t bother replying to emails, and so it’s always worth calling in person if you really need answers to questions or complaints.

Personally, I respond to ALL emails sent to me on the same day providing I’m in town and online, no matter what the content refers to, but then I’m not a Thai company, so this probably has something to do with it.

Hope that clarifies your doubts somewhat.

Cheers

Firstly, I dont know Drew or MrRoomfinder but i can tell you that its probably the most comprehensive site I have come across as far as photos and variety goes. Much better than most I have seen in Bangkok.

I am looking for a place right now and unlike others who bitch and moan about webmasters / apartment building owners that dont update their info on a daily basis, my wife is making a few calls around real estate agents to see what is CURRENTLY available.

It has been more productive to call a few real esate agents and get them to send me a list of potential properties that are currently available based on my chosen criteria. From the list we set up an appointment to go visit the ones i have chosen, feel free to use more than one agent.

If I am going fork over 2 months deposit anyway, I might as well get a real estate agent to do some homework, take me to visit the apartments to earn their half of the commission.

Drew's site, like others found advertising apartments in Bangkok for rent cant be compared to say an individual advertising his / her own flat in a classified ad. They serve a purpose but unless you had a staff of a hundred on the phone calling each apartment building each day so the website is 100% update, you are sh+t out of luck.

For those out there looking for an apartment why don't u place your own classified with your own detailed specs so those with apartments could contact you instead of moaning that rental websites are not up to date. Better yet, get off you butt and go look around town yourself.
