anyhow ,  im curious what is american food ?(ok not sarcastic)  i try to think about it ..emm Hot dog,Hamburger, steak (tony roma style) ??

one  time  i  had an arguement with a US  guy that where is  the birthplace of the Pizza Argument2.gif , i told him naples and  he  told me.. no it was from USA  .. :o

(and finally i win but he  still insist  and he said , ok..pizza  has origin in italy ....but modern pizza that we all eat  come from  american ..and yummier)  AngeryHit2.gif

Yes, this is what typical American food would consist of. Hardly any upper crust cuisine but it's good nevertheless.

Well as an Italian/American, let me shed some light on your debate there Bambi. Pizza originally comes from Greece actually. But, the style pizza most people are used to eating today was invented in America and not Italy. Pizza from Italy consists of the crust with a little tomato sauce/tomato paste, perhaps some sun-dried tomatoes, smatterings of cheese but not a lot, olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic. It would look like this:

The pizza created in America, the one most of us are used to, consists of the crust with lots of tomato sauce, lots of mozzarella cheese, and plenty of the meats and vegatables of your choice. It would look like this:

Hope this helps! :D

I just had Lou Malinati's deep dish Chicago style pizza ,Trip .

Can you get that in LV ?

American food ? ! ......... bbq ? Thanksgiving dinner ( turkey ) Potato salad , BLT not much as real american food goes . Im sure there are other dishes .

As a great melting pot everyone brings their own recipes from wherever they came from and pass them down to their children , who usually loose track of the original ingredients .

favorite food usually has to do with location as this affects availability and price...

in California:

soul food (bbq ribs, chicken, hot link sausages, potato salad, etc)

East LA mexican

Japanese

in the UK: Indian and not much else except for the occasional Sunday roast.

in Thailand; give me a Big Mac or a Whopper over thai 'food' anyday (cheap price and availability notwithstanding...)

To continue the pizza thread - the way pizza is prepared in Sweden today, differs from both the American style and the Italian style pizza. There are plenty of pizza hybrids that have become standard, such as the kebab pizza (with donner meat, pfefferoni (not the sausage, the large green pickled chili fruits used in Middle Eastern cooking), garlic sauce etc.), the Hawaii pizza (added canned pineapple on a Capricciosa) and many others. My personal favourite is curry powder, sliced banana and chicken breast with small dollops of Sauce Bearnaise - tastes great on a thin, crispy pizza base with a thin layer of tomato sauce - believe it or not. :o

Don't worry Jock, i don't think another apology thread will be needed :D:D

Did you mean to put Indian at numbers 2 and 3, or still pissed :D At least Haggis didn't get a mention, or is that in the Curry :D

Reminds me of that advert on TV a few years ago, where the woman was pregnant and all she was craving for, was a Banana Pizza

Most Indian food from Indian restaurants were invented in the UK during the 60's bbom - try asking for a Chicken Madras in Mombai. Pizza is an American invention as is Spagetti. So kind of cocks up many of those Indian and Italian choices.

Mine are:

1. Thai (including Isaan etc) (Yam Thalay pet pet and Tod Mun Pla, followed by Crispy Cat Fish in Panang Curry Sauce pet pet with Kow Suay and Phad Thai Goong with a side dish of 15 chilli Som Tam (dried prawn and Papaya version) washed down with a gallon of Chang beer and Gluay Buat Chee for dessert)

2. Pizza (American-Italian) - (Calzone or stone baked - Chilli, black olives, tuna, prawn, sweetcorn, japenos, pineapple, onion, peppers and mushroom). Not Pizza Hut or anything similar - the real mcCoy.

3. Chinese Chip Shop (Ingrish?) (King Prawn Curry and Large Chips with Salt and Pepper Squid).

Hey wheres English food??

You probably can't find it because those two words don't belong together. 4-puke.gif

:D:D:D

Yeah, but the thing is with English food, you have to have somebody who knows how to cook to make it good and you're hardly going to find a suitable candidate in Yankland now are you.

:o:D

Thai

Italian

English, from someone who knows how to cook

What about ..."Scottish cuisine" and the haggis

Some people think a haggis looks like a football.

They say its difficult to tell whether you should kick it or eat it.

After you've eaten it, you wish you'd kicked it. :o

The sport of haggis baiting has become ever more popular since the 1970s leading to a genuine fear of extinction. Experts believe that if the hunting of haggis by packs of docile Skye terriers is not properly licensed, this remarkable animal could be extinct by the start of the next decade. Thankfully a group of like-minded farmers from the Haggis Organisation for Good (HOG) have implemented a newly engineered breeding schedule at an Inverness safari park.

Their aim is to re-populate the countryside with this most dextrous of creatures.

A haggis is a small three-legged animal native to the Highland glens and mountains. Indigenous to Scotland the wee globular beastie is considered a delicacy amongst the upper echelons of society.

Beware though, haggis is only available in season - 30th November (St. Andrews Day) to 25th January (Robert Burns birthday).

THE FACTS

A savoury dish made from the internal organs of a sheep (minced) mixed with oatmeal, spices, salt, pepper and boiled in a sheep's stomach. The sheep is normally dead and the stomach removed prior to boiling.

This is the ancient equivalent of a 'boil in the bag' meal.

Seemingly this concoction was a popular meal in Greece before arriving in Caledonia. It is normally served with neeps (turnip) and mashed tatties.

In more recent times however haggis has been found in fish and chip shops,deep-fried in batter just like a Mars bars. :D

Actually Jeff, there are quite a few Chicago-style pizza joints here now and some of them do have deep-dish. They are actually not bad and they satisfy my cravings.

Did they put the man in Jail for cooking this ????

Ya, many people have the same reaction upon seeing one of these original Italian pizzas for the first time. Believe it or not, it tastes a lot better than it looks.

I had a pizza from a small restaurant in Rome last month. I was the most fantastic pizza I have ever eaten, I don't think I'll be able to eat a "pizza Hut" version now, I've been spoilt :o

Very true, also I would add Italians called it a "pie", pizza pie, got condensed simply to pizza, but on the east coast you still hear people refer to it as a pie,
