Mr Asif Ahmad has been appointed Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand.

He will succeed Mr Quinton Quayle who has left the Diplomatic Service to take up a job in the private sector. Mr Ahmad will take up his appointment with immediate effect.

Mr Ahmad joined the FCO in 1999 and began his career in the Resource Planning Department. He went on to Head the Commonwealth Department and worked for a time in the Prime Minister's Office. In the last 7 years, his roles in UKTI and the FCO covered the Asia Pacific region, including Thailand.

On his appointment as Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand, Mr Ahmad said:

"Thailand attracts a large number of British tourists and long term residents. British companies have substantial commercial interests in the country. I hope that the UK will be able to play a constructive part and help create an environment in the country that is good for the UK and Thailand."
