Computers And Plasma Tvs

Featured Replies

Saw a great deal on a 42" LG plasma at 15,950b.

Wasn't too interested until I wondered if I can connect my computer to one.

What I'd like to do is run movies strait from the PC to the screen without having to burn DVDs. Also, to be able to use the screen as a monitor for not only the pc but youtube etc.

Is it possible to do this?

Thanks.

HDMI connection at the back of the TV should do?

Yep, HDMI...you will need a DVI-HDMI dongle if your graphics card doesn't have HDMI out. (Maybe even D-sub to HDMI if it's a very old computer)

You can also use the VGA connector that you normally use for the monitor,

there will be a corresponding d-sub vga connector on the TV.

Thanks all. Will take the cable anfd a pikky of the back of my mc when I go to chk on it.

Don't forget the SOUND, you will most likely have to run a separate wire for sound from your computer sound card / motherboard to the TV and unless your computer is pretty close to the TV, viewing your desktop will not be all that easy

I do exactly what you're talking about, works great! I use the VGA input on my TV, the computer plugs straight into it.

I play the movie files just as they are, no burning to disc, much better :)

Just have a look on the TV and see if it's got a VGA input, most of them have these days, same lead you plug into the computer monitor.

Yep, good point. I run the sound separately from the computer, my TV doesn't seem to like the output!

Computer is on the TV stand and I have a wireless keyboard and mouse so I don't have to sit right up in front of it!

VGA will not pass any sound to the TV,

you will need a seperate cable.

HDMI will handle sound and video.

Only IF your Video Card supports both Video and Sound, most do not
