Hi All

My thai partner and I have been together for 3 years and we have a a son of 19months old. She visited the UK on a tourist visa last summer and we have just brought her back to the UK on a marriage visitor visa with the intention of getting married in late February. We have been to the registry office and made notification of intention to marry however due to some of my family issues we have decided that now is not a good time to get married and wish to wait another year or so.

My question is ...will the fact that we have gained a visit to marry visa and decided not to get married this time affect our future visa applications?

Any help on this issue would be great

Regards

Calling off a planed wedding happens, if either of you felt things were not right you did the right thing and this should not be held against you.

You say it is family issue, I do not want to pry but if it is disagreements with your family why not go off and get married in secret? you can tell them afterwords if you want.

The reason that you did not marry ( as you stated when you applied for the visa) may be relevant if and when you apply for another visa. When applying, you should put in a covering letter explaining what happened on this occasion. As Basil B says, these things happen. Bear in mind that any visa application should contain truthful statements, so telling the truth about what happened should not go against you.

Thanks to you both for your replies...We have a solid background so Im sure all will be ok with future applications.
