I'm looking for the expanding foam filler that comes in cans to fill some holes and cracks.

Have tried most of the local hardware/builders stores without success. I'm hoping some big store like Homepro stocks it but we live in the sticks and a trip to a place like Homepro would be a bid of a deal so don't want to make the journey if they don't stock the item.

Is it available and where would I be likely to get it.

Mail order would be great but I guess there is no chance of that even in LOS. Just imagine a can going off in the post office sorting room. :o

Cheers

Home Pro & Home Mart both carry this stuff....(not cheap & not much help to you, with out a big trip!) I used it on my house, dam_n messy stuff. The Thai's had a good laugh, when I used it to seal the area between roof & wall.... It's in and orangy brown can....

Once dried I was able to clean it up with a good edge... I had the last laugh!

approx 6-700 baht, check the date on the can, low turn over and only good for a year

but an acrylic filler works better for small cracks, and cement better for large cracks/holes :)

at a lower price :D

Hey Daffy D. Are you near Khon Kaen, Isaan ? I live in "the sticks" too and a/b 90K from KK, but make frequent trips to Global House. This place is as good - if not BETTER - than any place in USA. I can and have spent hours in this place.

Cheers,

K.

Has anyone seen any expanding foam or caulk that is specifically used to keep birds from entering crannies? Have found some stuff with online searches that drives birds nuts and they won't pick away at, not sure if available in Thailand. Blew my mind when I saw a bird enter the roof through the end cap tile yesterday....

birds eat/destroy expanding foam, so net or similar is only solution

Thanks everyone for the feed back some useful info there to think about.

"longball" your link was very helpful and after I set the wife loose on the Thai version she came up with several local shops to look at.

"bankruatsteve" I am looking into some flexible fillers especially for the cracks as they can always get crack some more.

"samuijimmy" I have used the expanding foam stuff before in a former life but that was just for filling some holes and didn't matter what it looked like. Guess it's a learning curve to give it a nice finish.

"katabeachbum" The expanding foam stuff does sound a bit pricey so am looking at alternatives. Sikaflex Constructio (PDF)

"selftaopath" Global House sounds interesting, kind of place I could spend lots of time and money in buying things I suddenly realized that I can't possibly do without. Unfortunately I live down south so can't be tempted. B)

Checking the sell-by date is a good point all these products seem to have short shelf life.

Again thanks for all the info. Ain't this site wonderful, how did people manage before?

For closing off gaps at edges of cement tile roofs, mix up a stiff batch of mortar, color entrained so you don't have to paint it, and trowel it into the openings. old school & permanent.

Hey bbradsby,

Thanks for the reminder. I remember putting coloring into concrete, but can't remember what the product was. Was it a chaulky/powder like substance? I'd like to search it out. I see houses that use concrete on their tile roofs but w/out coloring it and the concrete really "stands out." I think it definitely detracts from the appearance.

colored grout :)

for a few mm it can be used without sand/cement, but for larger holes sand and cement mixed with grout
