Actually something similar happened to me. After a disappointing trip to the ATM late at night, I'd accepted the need to walk home, but it was a long walk... so I'd taken my blade out for a slash discreetly behind a shady tree (what a relief!), and a copper (there's never one when you want one, is there?) came over to castigate me for my contribution to the breakdown of society. I futilely explained my predicament and showed him my empty wallet, with not even an ATM card in it any more, and he smiled and went on his way, leaving me to do the same; he never offered to shake my hand though.
