India, Pakistan to resume peace talks after Mumbai attacks

2011-02-11 01:03:49 GMT+7 (ICT)

NEW DELHI (BNO NEWS) -- India and Pakistan announced Thursday the decision to resume peace talks that collapsed after the 2008 attacks in Mumbai, Press Trust of India reported.

The issues discussed are the same as in the Composite Dialogue, which was halted by India after the Mumbai attacks. The series of talks will focus on the issues of counter-terrorism, humanitarian issues, peace and security, the disputed Kashmir region, and economic issues, said a statement released simultaneously in New Delhi and Islamabad.

The series of interactions are expected to start shortly, ahead of the visit of Pakistan's Foreign Minister S. M. Qureshi, who will review progress in the dialogue process with his counterpart in July.

The United States has been pressing both countries to restart peace efforts to reduce regional tensions.

New Delhi blamed Pakistan-based militants for the bombing attacks that killed 166 and injured hundreds in Mumbai.
