supaprik
Hello people... wanna take my tee rak on one of those Chaophraya river cruise dinner thingies!!! Seems to be many with mixed reviews also, anyone know of the best one? I have been on the rice barge one and that was OK, I was thinking one of the " Chaophraya Princesses?" Any thoughts? Nisa
I went on this one last year on Valentine's Day ... http://www.thaicruis...ophraya2_en.php (see: http://www.thaicruis...n.php?newsid=27) It was nice for the price. Nothing spectacular but no complaints either. It simply was nice and I was happy we went. Food was good but the buffet table does get a bit crowded. Edit: Call for reservations if you want to go Valentine's day. Definitely nice to go on this day as they have fireworks along the river and believe they happen on the way back after dinner. Last time I took one I was very disappointed for the price (1'400 baht per head if memory serves me right) i thought the buffet was shocking food was a sad indictment on Thai cooking and the overall feel was one of; get them on, feed them, get them off. NEXT!! If you want a nice dinner, there are loads of places where you get more bang for your buck. But each to his or her own i guess.

And I agree.....Baiyoke Tower...restaurant...the one at the top...good food, good music, good service. Last time we went. a year or so ago now the price was about the same as a boat trip. Have done the boat trip/cruise three times now..twice with friends from the UK..never again!

I am not sure how the rice barge cruise compares but I do believe this (cruise) is a great Valentine's dinner and again have to say I was happy I went. With that said, now that I have done it last year I am not eager to do it again but surely recommend it as a great valentine dinner.
thrilled
The cruises are ok.I will give ya 1 tip when it's time to eat relax wait about 5 or 10 minutes before ya go up and get your food.I made the mistake of going up at the beginning with everyone else. There was some shoving, elbowing etc.My advice wait til most of the people get their food you;ll be better off. SinCityGr8One
I have been to Yok Yor Marina & Restaurant, Soi Somdej Chaowpraya 17. I did the Dinner cruise several times and it never failed to impress. I will definitely take the cruise again. The restaurant is pretty cool too right on the river. Food and service was great. Check it out yourself.

montrii
The only decent one, for my money, is Loy Nava. I've done it twice. You get traditional Thai music and dance on board, it's intimate and romantic. I believe you have a choice of two set Thai dinners. I suppose it's pricey (I think around 1400 baht, or around 2000 for Valentine's Day), and of course you can get better food in many places, but it is a sweet cruise and my honey and I enjoyed it a lot both times. The other cruises are noisy, the food is plentiful but mediocre, and the entertainment is pretty tasteless. try Loy Nava.

Agree. If I had to complain about one thing this would be it. However, I have told a lot of people to go on the cruise as I really did enjoy it last Valentine day. My comment about not being excited to do it again probably has a lot more to do with my being burnt out on the whole river thing because I have been up and down it so many time this years on the ferrys. cshort64
I would like to offer up the Marrriott Hotel and Resort's rice barge dinner cruises. I have been several times, they are a bit smaller, maybe 15 couples or tables, the food was excellent, the service very good as well. Traditional and entertaining. Price a bit more, close to 2,000 baht per person, but very enjoyable for a special occasion. Enjoy! C
rodentwarrior
I have been on Loy Nava many times over the years. If you book online you get a 20% discount. www.loynava.com There are three set menu's (traditional, vegetarian and seafood) and it's brought to your table, no queuing and there is far more food than a normal person could eat! The waiters wear beautiful uniform. This is a converted rice barge, not a great big impersonal ship. Beautiful dancing girls in traditional costume and live (background) music. PS I have no business relationship with this Company, I just know what is good, and what I enjoy. Good value for money in my view.
