Is Chaing Mai Full Of Pot Heads And Hippies?

Featured Replies

Another topic and the responses in it about a drug bust has got me thinking about who really are the expats living in CM. A few years ago I have bought a nice spacious condo with the thought of retiring to CM for 3-4 months a year when I finish my professional working life. The thought of having to socialise with potheads and stoners really doesn't float my boat as I deal with the downside of drug addiction and lifestyle on an almost daily basis and don't need to be reminded when I have finished my career.

So is the place full of stoners or is there a normal proportion of expats in CM and the vocal minority are giving a false impression of the expat scene there?

Don't worry Hagler all the stoners and potheads are up here in Pai so your nice spacious condo expat scene in CM should float your boat nicely.

for every pothead in Chiangmai, there are 100 alcoholics, 20 soi dogs, and 20 missionaries.

"Oh yes let the howling and whinging begin but hopefully the people concerned do indeed get the death penalty or at minimum a long ,long, long time in a dark dank prison cell where they can rot away and ponder their crimes." ... Hagler on Ganja Sweets.

I suspect you would be happier in Texas.

I think Chiang Mai would be happier too.

That u Marvin ?????

Reading through that post , I couldn't posssssssibbbleeee imagine how you could get that impression. :)

Not to worry with the druggies, worry more about the foodaholics.... thousands of them....including me near the front of the pack.

PM me if you would be so kind, as I am next door to a large condo and we may be neighbors...

Gonzo

Maybe you should have done some research before deciding where to buy your nice spacious condo?

Did you pick Chiang Mai out of a hat, or was it the fact it's so cheap that attracted you?

:whistling: Whats wrong with potheads and stoners? They are nicer, quieter and less violent than pissheads and boozers :burp:

On Friday night a male American tourist with the appearance of a Rastifarian was arrested for openly smoking marijuana in the area of Pattaya’s Walking Street.

pdn151.jpgPattaya, November 18, 2010, [PDN]: At 11.30 pm, on 17th December 2010, Pattaya Deputy Police Investigator, Captain Tanasit Geanleum, received a report from a patrol officer, who had detained a male tourist for smoking marijuana in Soi 14 on Walking Street. A team of officers was sent to assist.

At the scene they found an American man, Mr. Igan Hernandec [36], who had the appearance of a Rastafarian, and was clearly intoxicated. In his possession they found 3 gm of dried marijuana wrapped in a cigarette paper.

Police questioned the patrol officer, bar owners and bystanders who said the man was walking around, smoking the marijuana openly, and didn’t seem to care that what he was doing is illegal in Thailand.

Whats wrong with potheads and stoners? They are nicer, quieter and less violent than pissheads and boozers

To be honest I hardly ever notice any potheads and stoner's, they are probably doing it where it bothers no-one.

However, as you say piss heads and boozers are in your face at almost every turn.

In the early days of internet forums, this kind of post was calleda Troll. Don't know what they are called now but this sure is one of them.

Just in case you're serious. Chiang Mai's expat population are not pot-heads or stoners, but rather a sober and sensible community. Given your previous posting history as revealed by Thunder duck, that should impress you. I wonder, though what you have got against 'pot heads and stoners' do they do any harm?

Cold Beer, Warm Atmosphere

haha!

plus 19 tuk-tuk drivers, 15 sexpats, 5 muay thai wannabes and 3 mental mahouts!

Yea, Seems pretty normal a place to me :)

I have wondered why so many people seem to have gargantuan appetites, at the strangest times of day. rolleyes.gif

Wow, what are self righteous people like this doing here when they could be enjoying some really beautiful places far more suitable to their particular taste...Afghanistan, Pakistan, Saudi, Iran etc.

GREAT I AGREE!

Right, and often extra intelligent, open minded and generally less stupid. (not talking about ADDICTS of any kind)

Away with that pathetic prejudices...

If a drunk runs over & kills your kid you will probably feel differently about it.

As you can read it is very dangerous over here so don't come this way if you love your life and you will do many citizens a pleasure for sure.

Boy, those coffee drinking, cigarette smoking, beer drinking ex pats that I see around are turning Chiang Mai into drug city. wink.gif

I would not judge Chiang Mai by the people here on Thaivisa. We don't represent the majority of expats here.....although some like to think they do.

Thanks to all for your replies so far.

I shall mull over what you have all said.

Interesting graph, where does it come from? I'm not disputing what is shown, it seems about right based on my limited experience, but sources are always more credible when properly referenced. I see that the link is to "www.saferchoice.org", but a web address isn't a credible reference.

In four and a half years in Chiang Mai I've seen one person smoke pot and one person try to roll a joint (are they called spliffs now?) in a bar. Both these people were tourists. There probably are pot smoking ex-pats, but it seems they have the good sense to be discrete.

There would a lot more pot smoking expats if it was legal. I don't smoke pot these days but many of my same generation friends in the US still do as we grew up in the flower power era. As foreigners here, I think many of us are more careful about this here than back home.

The op forgot to name also commies and gays to be the perfect blacklist
